Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates are not expected to meet every criterion; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficient in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
  • Familiarity with teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning
  • Experience in cultivating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated experience in building respectful connections with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
  • Participation with students outside the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
