Overview of the school
Marylebone Boys' School was established in September 2014 as a free school and currently serves 600 boys in Years 7-11. In 2019, we introduced our co-educational Sixth Form, which will eventually accommodate around 840 students.
In February 2026, we became part of United Learning Trust and are set to transition to a co-educational academy in September 2027. From September 1, 2026, we will be known as Marylebone Academy (MA).

Marylebone Academy is situated in an urban setting and currently serves a student body with 50% Pupil Premium eligibility. Located at the vibrant Paddington Basin, developed by Westminster City Council, our school is conveniently near Paddington Station, benefiting from the Elizabeth line as well as existing Underground and National Rail services. With two campuses (secondary and sixth form) on North Wharf Road, we represent a modern, dynamic inner-city secondary school.

CORE PURPOSE OF SENIOR LEADERSHIP ROLES AT MARYLEBONE ACADEMY
• All members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) will ensure the highest educational outcomes and standards within the school by fostering an ethos of ‘the best in everyone,’ where students and staff are valued, and all stakeholders are inspired, challenged, motivated, empowered, and safe.
• Each SLT member will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the school and assisting the Principal in realizing the long-term vision.
• SLT will lead on specific areas of responsibility, developing policies and practices that ensure the smooth operation of the school.
• The SLT will cultivate a learning environment by serving as role models for classroom practices and effectively fulfilling their teaching responsibilities.
• SLT will exemplify outstanding behavior for all staff and students, maintaining high visibility throughout the school day, at events, and at times beyond school hours.
• SLT will utilize data to monitor and track student progress against targets and starting points to ensure they are making adequate progress.
• SLT will guarantee that pupil outcomes are exceptional by embedding effective evaluation systems to foster continuous improvement.
OVERVIEW OF VICE PRINCIPAL ROLE
We are looking for an extraordinary leader with a proven history of driving significant enhancements and delivering measurable impact, whether currently serving as a Vice Principal or Assistant Principal. You will collaborate with the SLT, which includes the Principal, four Assistant Principals, and the School Business Manager, to foster an engaging learning environment focused on academic excellence and high standards of behavior. The Vice Principal will align with and support the Principal’s vision for change and school improvement, grounded in unwavering standards, exceptional teaching, and a rich character curriculum.
The Vice Principal will effectively balance strategic foresight with operational management to achieve outstanding results for students.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Vice Principal will take on a set of responsibilities as determined by the Principal in consultation with the SLT, playing a vital role in leading and supporting the execution of the school’s vision and policies. The appointed Vice Principal will be expected to act in the Principal's stead during their absence. The precise responsibilities will depend on the individual’s skills and the needs of the school and may encompass a variety of the following areas:
Curriculum
- Strategic planning for the school, overseeing curriculum implementation.
- Contributing to the school curriculum plan, staffing, room allocation, and timetabling.
- Coordinating the staffing plan and participating in recruitment efforts.
- Facilitating cross-curricular collaborative projects and activities.
- Overseeing the co-curricular life of the school, emphasizing ‘education with character’ and personal development.
Pupil Progress
- Overseeing the coordination of regular progress assessments, result analysis, and implementing effective interventions.
- Assisting in the coordination of internal examinations and baseline assessments.
- Supporting the reporting system coordination.
- Overseeing intervention strategies and taking overall responsibility for individualized learning.
School Self Evaluation
- Contributing to the school’s self-evaluation and leading student voice initiatives.
Pupil Welfare and Behaviour for Learning
- Collaborating with Heads of Year to establish effective behavior for learning.
- Working with external agencies to provide adequate support for students requiring additional welfare assistance.
- Partnering with the SLT to manage behavior, rewards, sanctions, and exclusions, while supporting a trauma-informed approach to inclusion and behavior.
Policies
- Assisting in the implementation and review of relevant policies alongside the Principal and Local Governing Board.
Line Management
- Managing specific faculty or subject areas.
- Line management of certain Assistant Principals as designated by the Principal.
School Events and Operations
- Ensuring the seamless day-to-day operations of the school.
- Leading relevant meetings with parents.
- Attending Local Governing Board meetings as necessary.
