The Role
We seek a seasoned Head of Middle School (Collège) to join our Senior Leadership Team and oversee the Middle School (Collège) division. The Head of Collège is tasked with offering comprehensive educational and organizational leadership, ensuring a unified student experience, promoting a positive school culture, and effectively coordinating teaching, operations, and pastoral needs.
This role will work closely with:
•
the Head of Teaching & Learning (Collège), who is responsible for pedagogy and staff development;
•
the Head of Collège Operations, in charge of daily logistics, coordination, and scheduling.
Although the Head of Collège does not directly manage curriculum development, they are responsible for the successful implementation and alignment of school standards across the section.
Key Responsibilities
1. Section Leadership & Educational Culture
•
Exhibit strong, visible, and consistent leadership throughout the Collège.
•
Uphold high expectations concerning behavior, routines, and cultural standards.
•
Ensure alignment with school-wide goals and strategic objectives.
•
Act as a key authority for staff, students, and families.
2. Coordination Between Pedagogy and Operations
•
Collaborate with the Head of Teaching & Learning to improve teaching quality and consistency (without direct responsibility for curriculum).
•
Partner with the Head of Collège Operations to guarantee effective daily organization.
•
Ensure coherence across academic expectations, pastoral needs, and operational realities.
•
Address matters requiring senior judgment and inter-team collaboration.
3. Student Life, Safeguarding & Pastoral Care
•
Cultivate a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
•
Oversee behavior management systems, attendance, pastoral support, and student wellbeing.
•
Co-lead safeguarding initiatives, training, and compliance efforts.
•
Handle complex or sensitive situations involving students and families with professionalism and empathy.
4. Accreditation, Compliance & Standards
•
Assist in the school’s accreditation processes and quality assurance protocols.
•
Ensure that section policies and procedures adhere to relevant educational standards.
•
Prepare required documentation, conduct staff briefings, and facilitate accreditation visits.
•
Monitor actions linked to accreditation feedback.
5. Student Experience & Enrichment
•
Facilitate a coherent and inspiring experience for students throughout the Collège.
•
Develop enrichment programs, competitions, clubs, and leadership opportunities.
•
Coordinate community engagement and volunteer initiatives.
•
Support and validate educational trips and residential experiences.
6. Staff Leadership & Professional Development
•
Guide, mentor, and hold staff accountable within the Collège section.
•
Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of teachers.
•
Collaborate with the Head of Teaching & Learning to support staff development.
•
Ensure effective communication, clear expectations, and consistency in practices.
7. Family Partnership, Communication & Representation
•
Act as the primary contact for Collège parents.
•
Lead parent-teacher meetings, prepare reports, newsletters, and key communications.
•
Support marketing and admissions through presentations, visits, and events.
•
Represent the Collège both internally and externally.
The Ideal Candidate
•
Significant experience in a senior school leadership role (Head / Deputy Head / Assistant Head / Senior Middle School Leader).
•
Strong background in pastoral care, behavior management systems, and staff leadership.
•
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to navigate complex environments.
•
Calm, authoritative, collaborative, and solution-focused.
•
Experience in an international, bilingual, and/or independent educational setting is preferred.
•
Familiarity with the French educational system.
•
Native or near-native proficiency in English.
•
Eligibility to work in France (preferred).
