About This Role
Birch Narrows Dene Community School is seeking applications for the position of Grade 1 Teacher for the 2024-25 academic year. Nestled in the beautiful Northern Saskatchewan, Birch Narrows Dene Nation is home to approximately 750-800 residents. The school caters to students from nursery through grade 12 and is equipped with a gym featuring changing rooms, a multi-purpose room, a library, a home economics room, a PAA room, science and computer labs, and various resource areas.
BNDCS is dedicated to cultivating a community of learners through positive relationships that honor Dene/Cree/Michif cultures, languages, and traditional knowledge. The school also includes a cabin and implements Land-Based education, emphasizing a holistic approach that integrates Indigenous knowledge systems with academic learning to prepare students for success in their educational journeys.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Education degree or higher from an accredited institution, with eligibility for a Saskatchewan Professional “A” or Provisional Professional “A” teaching certificate.
- A thorough understanding of Canada's Indigenous Peoples, with the capacity to incorporate their culture, values, and history into the curriculum.
- High expectations for academic achievement and excellence.
- Strong classroom management skills, along with the ability to implement positive behavior and classroom management strategies effectively.
- Experience in accommodating and including students with special needs by adjusting teaching methods and curriculum to ensure inclusivity.
- A commitment to fulfilling the entire school year.
