DT Technician

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily/Lesson Preparation
• Prepare materials as required by the subject teacher prior to lessons.
• Ensure that hand tools are maintained in optimal condition and stored properly.
• Organize additional equipment needed for lessons.
• Regularly service all tools and equipment in the workshop and classroom areas.
• Empty and clean dust extraction filters according to manufacturer specifications and the departmental calendar.
• Maintain a tidy, organized, and hazard-free environment in all classrooms.
• Assist Technology staff in creating suitable resources for teaching and learning.

General:

• Organize the storage and upkeep of materials and tools within the Department.
• Conduct stock-taking and ordering of materials, ingredients, and equipment in collaboration with the Head of Department.
• Organize and catalog books for the department.
• Assist in organizing trips.
• Support internal and external competitions and exhibitions related to Design Technology.
• Provide assistance to teachers during practical lessons.
• Under the guidance of the Head of Department, ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations.
• Help teaching staff promote and elevate the profile of Design Technology within and beyond the College.
• Aid in the development and implementation of Computer Aided Design & Manufacture in the department.
• Collaborate as part of the Design and Technology Department team, offering assistance as needed.
• Undertake any other tasks relevant to the Design Technology Department or the school’s needs as they arise.

Key Attributes:

• Practical experience with tools, equipment, and materials is preferred.
• Ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize personal and team workloads.
• Capability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently.
• Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficient in ICT, including Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with Techsoft Design and Fusion 360 is a plus.
