Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education degree
  • Valid teaching certificate that is recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways to Teach Canada)

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years in a formal or informal school leadership position (e.g., Vice-Principal, department head, instructional coach, or teacher-leader)
  • At least 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment that enhances the well-being of students and staff.
  • Capacity to support instructional leadership alongside the Principal, with a focus on literacy advancement and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Experience in enhancing instructional practices through coaching, professional learning communities (PLCs), and leveraging student achievement data to drive student success.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders, particularly in northern and cross-cultural settings.

Assets and Preferred Experience

Language and Cultural Assets
  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written).
  • Experience in facilitating education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
  • Background in overseeing bilingual and ESL programming.
Instructional Leadership
  • Graduate-level education training.
