Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate that is recognized or eligible for certification in Nunavut (International educators without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their qualifications evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While candidates need not meet every requirement, relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience supporting education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching contexts
  • Experience teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Skilled in differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy enhancement
  • Familiarity with modern assessment techniques to guide learning
  • Proven ability to establish positive learning spaces through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
  • Experience promoting student wellbeing and engagement
  • Engagement with students beyond classroom activities, as appropriate
