About This Role

Discovery College is seeking a dedicated educator for the full-time position of Primary Teacher with an Arts Specialism in Drama & Theatre, set to begin in August 2026. This role is offered on a fixed-term contract for one year.

Position Overview

The Primary Teacher with Arts Specialism (Drama & Theatre) will play a vital role in enriching student learning and development by designing, preparing, and delivering drama lessons. These lessons will not only stand alone as a subject but also be integrated into the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The teacher will address the diverse learning needs of students, aiming for targeted outcomes while promoting creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking through the art of drama.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leverage your professional expertise to support the College in achieving the 5 DC Outcomes for all students.
  • Create lesson plans and sequences, including integrated lessons, tailored to meet the individual learning requirements of students and promote their growth.
  • Apply a range of effective teaching strategies and classroom management techniques.
  • Utilize flexible grouping and structured inquiry to deliver high-quality lessons that align with the IBO philosophy.
  • Establish and maintain an organized and stimulating learning environment.
  • Integrate learning technologies to enhance the educational experience.
  • Use insights from students’ prior achievements to set appropriate expectations.
  • Employ various assessment and reporting methods to showcase students’ successes concerning learning objectives.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents or caregivers.
  • Engage in professional development activities that align with the priorities of the school and the wider system.
  • Take ownership of your professional journey and apply gained insights to improve teaching and student outcomes.
  • Contribute actively to the school’s policies and objectives.
  • Ensure smooth administration of classroom procedures.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to develop and implement a transdisciplinary program that incorporates drama within the PYP framework.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and School Improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of professional practice and student achievement.
  • Engage in the Professional Reflection and Development process to foster personal professional growth and align with the organization’s goals.
  • Contribute to the wider community of the College, including involvement in co-curricular programs and offsite activities.
  • Support the academic, pastoral, and co-curricular initiatives of the institution.
  • As needed, serve as a Class Teacher or Learning Advisor, providing care and support to ensure that all students excel and have opportunities to thrive.
  • Perform additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the Principal or their delegate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or an equivalent qualification.
  • A strong understanding of the IB and its core curriculum frameworks is essential.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
