About This Role

GEMS Cambridge International School in Abu Dhabi is seeking a passionate English Teacher (KS3/4) to join our team starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will motivate and engage students in Key Stage 3 and 4, providing high-quality English instruction that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a lasting enthusiasm for reading and writing. Overall Function and Purpose

The position involves teaching and educating students in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework and under the overarching guidance of the relevant education authority. You will assess and instruct assigned students based on their educational needs, delivering the appropriate curriculum to ensure each student achieves academic success while contributing to the broader school community.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver the required curriculum with a comprehensive and current understanding of subject matter.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and conducive environment that promotes excellent student outcomes.
  • Plan, prepare, and teach lessons tailored to the diverse abilities of all students in the class.
  • Educate students according to their individual educational needs, strengths, and achievements, both individually and in groups.
  • Work towards implementing the school's development plan.
  • Assign, correct, and grade student work in accordance with the school’s marking policy.
  • Set high expectations for every student and support them in reaching their potential, ensuring they produce work that meets high standards.
  • Assess, record, and report on students' development, progress, attainment, and behavior.
  • Analyze data to modify classroom practices, ensuring all learners can achieve their full potential.
  • Contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references for individual or groups of students.
  • Engage in student performance appraisal processes within an established national framework.
  • Promote the overall progress and well-being of individual students or groups entrusted to your care.
  • Provide educational and social guidance to students, including advice on further education and targets.
  • Communicate, consult, and collaborate with other staff members, including those in positions of special responsibility and with parents/guardians.
  • Reflect on and evaluate your teaching methodologies and programs in alignment with National Curriculum Framework guidelines to enhance classroom learning.
  • Advise and collaborate with the Head of School, Deputy Heads, Assistant Head Teachers, Heads of Year, and other educators in developing curriculum design, teaching materials, methods, and pastoral care arrangements.
  • Ensure high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning in your subject areas.
  • Participate in reciprocal peer reviews and classroom observations conducted by the Head of Department.
  • Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and partake in action research activities.
  • Maintain discipline among students in your care and ensure their health and safety at all times.
  • Report any concerns regarding student safety, whether emotional or physical, to the school's safeguarding officer.
  • Attend staff, group, or other meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements to enhance the organization and administration of the school.
  • Contribute to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers as agreed with the Head of School.
  • Provide essential information and advice to designated personnel within the school, including requisition and arrangement details related to your assigned subjects.
  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of equipment typically utilized during lessons.
  • Safeguard the custody of the laptop, whiteboard pen, and remote provided at the start of your employment.
