Chester College International School, located on the edge of the historic city of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader for the position of Deputy Headteacher / Teaching and Learning.
Founded in 1985, Chester College fosters a multilingual environment rooted in Christian Catholic humanistic principles. As a small, close-knit educational community, we are committed to providing outstanding, individualized education for students aged 3 to 18, with a strong focus on academic success, personal growth, and integrity.
The role:
We are in search of a passionate and dedicated leader who is enthusiastic about academic achievement, student well-being, and the ongoing development of the school. The Deputy Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher to support parents, staff, and students, playing a crucial role in the strategic advancement of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Manages the daily operations of the school, ensuring its efficient and effective functioning. Takes charge of the school in the Headteacher’s absence.
- Leadership & Professional Development: Promotes high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment; evaluates teaching and learning, including tracking individual performance; assists in developing a curriculum that fosters the highest achievements for all; leads meetings related to specific responsibilities.
- Part-time teaching commitment: Teaches within a department or section of the school, contributing to departmental initiatives.
- Student Progress: Evaluates and ensures optimal academic and personal development for students.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicates and interacts with parents, students, and other key stakeholders in the broader school community.
- Extracurricular Development: Assists in enhancing our extracurricular programs.
- School Improvement: Supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive continuous improvement plan for the school.
- Growth Strategy: Engages in the formulation and execution of a growth strategy for the school.
Qualifications:
- Qualified teacher status.
- Good Honours degree.
- Leadership experience or relevant training.
Experience:
- Proven record of effective teaching.
- Demonstrated leadership in a department or similar role, guiding and holding others accountable while monitoring and evaluating their performance.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with effective teaching practices.
- Understanding of best practices in pastoral care.
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish.
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills, capable of inspiring, guiding, and supporting others.
- Exceptional teaching abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
Personal:
- Strong work ethic.
- High energy levels.
- Patience and a sense of humor.
- Eligibility to work in the European Union is a plus.
