About This Role

The Vice Principal:

- Cultivates an appropriate school culture and learning environment, aligning with the school's philosophy and curriculum requirements.

- Provides effective, dynamic, and inspirational leadership to promote each student's social, emotional, and academic growth.

- Advocates for a positive view of the school community, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement in the learning process.

- Assists the ASC team in academic initiatives, including welcoming and meeting with parents and students as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Leadership and Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the School.
  • Foster a collaborative learning culture and actively engage with other sections to create effective learning communities.
  • Inspire, develop, and lead all staff to uphold the highest professional standards.
  • Coordinate orientation for new teachers, students, and parents in collaboration with the Head of School.
  • Ensure that job descriptions and performance management for all staff are clearly defined, reviewed at least annually, and aligned with current employment conditions, in partnership with the Head of School.
  • Oversee the appraisal process for teachers and teacher assistants, including goal setting, classroom observations, staff evaluations, and self-reflection documentation, all of which are accessible to the Head of School.
  • Manage Parent-Teacher Conferences and staff meetings.
  • Assess, plan, and procure teaching materials, book orders, and staff resources, considering the needs of the school and curriculum vertical alignment, in conjunction with the Head of School.
  • Be available to students and parents during Parents/Teacher/Student Conferences and school meetings/workshops/seminars, outside of instructional hours, as required by professional responsibilities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, field trips, and school events.
  • Ensure effective procedures for the security, safety, and supervision of the entire community, complying with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a proactive and effective working relationship with the Head of School.
  • Uphold confidentiality and discretion in professional matters and conflicts.
  • Address issues with colleagues in a straightforward, honest, and non-confrontational manner.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities delegated by the Head of School are fulfilled.
  • Oversee student discipline.
  • Arrive punctually for school, lessons, and duties.
  • Actively engage and contribute to curriculum development in an informed manner.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all aspects of a Head of Section's responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate effective management abilities.
  • Model and maintain high standards of behavior, appearance, professional dress, ethics, punctuality, honesty, and fairness for all staff members.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

2. Teaching, Learning, Curriculum, and Standards

  • Collaborate to support the implementation of curricular programs that inspire and engage all students.
  • Ensure a consistent and continuous focus on student assessment and achievement school-wide, utilizing appropriate data to set, monitor, and evaluate individual student progress.
  • Aid teachers in creating a nurturing and supportive pastoral care environment for all students.
  • Through the appraisal process, evaluate and review classroom practices, promoting strategies that enhance student outcomes, consistently aiming for exceptional standards in learning and teaching.

3. Communication and Consultation

  • Foster effective relationships with all leaders, teachers, and staff through excellent communication and interpersonal skills, offering and receiving appropriate advice and suggestions.
  • Coordinate the school's efforts with other sections to ensure seamless transitions and curriculum articulation.
  • Consult with the Head of School about students' academic progress, discipline, and social/emotional concerns as needed.
  • Maintain diplomacy and discretion in all matters.
