Mercia Learning Trust is a successful partnership of four primary and four secondary schools located in Sheffield. Established in 2012, with one secondary school, our trust has grown to serving over 6100 pupils, with over 800 staff.

Why do we exist?

  • To empower everyone in our communities, especially the most disadvantaged, to succeed.

How do we behave?

  • We are kind - showing care and supporting each other.
  • We have integrity - doing the right thing and always putting children first.
  • We work with diligence - overcoming obstacles and having no excuses.

What do we do?

  • We run schools that focus on academic excellence, cultural capital and the development of character.

How will we succeed?

  • A culture of excellence – high standards shaped by clarity, not control.
  • Academic focus – empowering all children through an exceptional curriculum.
  • Purposeful collaboration – relationships built on trust, reducing sub-optimisation and driving collective success.

Our staff are a crucial part of our trust, just like our pupils. We are devoted to recruiting, training, retaining and taking good care of our highly skilled and dedicated team.

Mercia Northridge School

Mercia Northridge School is a secondary school for children aged 11 - 16. It is situated in Sheffield and has over 700 pupils on roll. The school believes in traditional methods of teaching and academic rigour, with a strong focus on behaviour, closely modelled on Mercia School.

Mercia Northridge School strives to provide all pupils, no matter their background or starting point, an academic curriculum that allows them to excel and thrive when they leave. We are committed to the most vulnerable pupils, and we are recruiting those who believe that high standards and expectations are necessary to lead pupils towards success.

It is a fantastic time to join the school. We are steadfast in our belief that Mercia Northridge School can become one of the best schools in England. That work is well underway, and we are looking for a new teacher of history who can contribute positively to this vital work.

The role

We are seeking a highly skilled and talented teacher of history to join our team, starting in January 2027. Passionate about history, you will share our desire to drive outcomes and ensure we offer the best available opportunities for pupils. History is extremely popular at Mercia Northridge School, and we are keen to build on existing expertise within the department. We have recently moved to the AQA GCSE specification, but all candidates are encouraged to apply.

We are ambitious for all, which is reflected in our academically rigorous curriculum. You will be responsible for teaching pupils across key stage 3 and 4.

The staff within the department are extremely talented and the results will be exceptional in 2027. It is a brilliant opportunity to contribute to the exciting curriculum and assessment development already underway.

The candidate

You will be an excellent teacher of history with an outstanding track record. You will be committed to developing the life chances of young people and inspire the love of history. You will be inspired by the vision we have for Mercia Northridge School and desperate to play your part in transforming the life chances of the school's outstanding young people.

Innovative and resilient, you will have an unwavering commitment to pupil progress. You will relish being a vital part of a team that is relentless in its pursuit of improvement and excellence.

We are looking for someone who will quickly fit in and work well with our history team, eager to learn and develop your own practice as well as share your own ideas, enthusiastic and want to make a difference.
