The librarian's role encompasses:
• Providing research and library support services for all staff and students within the school.
• Supervising the maintenance and organization of the library and its resources.
Responsibilities
• Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for both students and staff.
• Ensure accurate management of library resources.
• Keep detailed records, compile statistics, and generate reports as required.
• Enter cataloging details into the library's automated database.
• Regularly discard outdated and damaged materials to keep the catalog up to date.
• Assess the library's service offerings, technological needs, and media resources.
• Establish and manage the budget for library and information services.
• Develop relationships and source materials from book suppliers.
• Create and maintain specialized indexing systems and files for library collections.
• Oversee the management of the collections management system (Orison).
• Assist students and staff with daily information requests.
• Select, acquire, and process new materials to ensure a varied and contemporary collection.
• Issue overdue notices and collect fees for lost or damaged items.
• Inform students and staff about newly available materials.
• Promptly respond to all emails from staff and suppliers.
• Prepare the sound system for morning assemblies.
• Provide support during school events.
• Track all books borrowed by staff.
• Maintain the library in a clean and organized manner.
• Be knowledgeable about fire evacuation procedures.
• Organize book fair events.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Collaborate with school staff to establish an effective library usage schedule (Timetable).
• Engage with parents, teachers, students, and administrators to enhance student learning.

Safeguarding
Work in accordance with statutory safeguarding guidelines (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education) and the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
Collaborate with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to advance student interests, including reporting any concerns as necessary.
Ensure the safeguarding of all students in the school at all times.
Other areas of responsibility
• Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and frameworks established by the KHDA, BSO, and the UAE Ministry of Education.
• Aid the leadership team in preparing for and executing the KHDA inspection process, developing and adhering to post-inspection action plans.
• Contribute to the success of the UAE National Agenda.
• Maintain professional communication with all KHDA and government officials, representing the school at required forums and meetings as requested by the Principal.
Performance Appraisal
• The Librarian's performance will be continuously monitored and assessed throughout the year.
• The Librarian will undergo a two-stage appraisal process, beginning with evaluations by the Head of Operations followed by a review from the Principal.
• Both the Head of Operations and Principal will provide feedback regarding the ongoing suitability of the candidate for the role.
