About This Role
GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is on the lookout for an exceptional Head of Year (Prep School) to join us in August 2026. The ideal candidate will take charge of a year group, ensuring excellence in teaching, strong student outcomes, and fostering a nurturing environment where every student can succeed.
Job Purpose:
The Head of Year is responsible for providing leadership within the year group, collaborating closely with educators and the Pupil Wellbeing Team to uphold high standards in teaching, learning, and pastoral care. This position also involves supporting the development of staff and contributing to the overarching improvement of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee teaching and learning within the year group, ensuring uniformity and high standards.
Track student progress, behavior, and attendance, providing support as needed.
Mentor and assist teachers to enhance their classroom practices.
Foster a positive culture centered around wellbeing, behavior, and achievement.
Engage with parents to facilitate student progress and development.
Conduct year group meetings, organize planning sessions, and coordinate significant events.
Champion safeguarding and student wellbeing throughout the year group.
Participate in transition, admissions, and induction activities.
Plan and manage trips, enrichment programs, and year group events.
Assist with staff performance evaluations and professional development initiatives.
Play an active role in school-wide projects and improvement planning.
