GEMS International School Cairo (GISC) is seeking an exceptional Head of Secondary to join our team starting in August 2026.

School Overview

Located in the vibrant area of New Cairo, GEMS International School Cairo (GISC) is the first dedicated flagship institution for GEMS under the EEP framework in Egypt. GISC is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate continuum school, offering the PYP, MYP, and DP from PreK to grade 12.

GISC adheres to the American curriculum AERO standards and has earned ‘distinction status’ following an outstanding authorization visit from Cognia. By the 2026–2027 academic year, GISC will be in its fifth year of operation, with an anticipated enrollment of 1,400 students. The school is recognized for its innovative and forward-thinking technology programs, distinctive learning approaches, and a supportive culture within the staff and community.

About the Role:

The Head of Secondary serves as the educational leader for both Middle and High Schools (Grades 6-12).

The successful candidate will need to cultivate strong relationships with staff, students, and parents while upholding a high standard of accountability. A significant portion of their efforts will be dedicated to implementing relevant elements of the school improvement plan.

The Head of Secondary will champion new and innovative teaching practices, including the effective use of technology as a medium for instruction and communication. This position reports directly to the Head of School and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting and retaining the best-fit staff members
  • Providing leadership and training to coordinators and department heads
  • Overseeing the evaluation of secondary staff members
  • Designing and facilitating professional development opportunities
  • Participating in the admissions process
  • Supporting staff and student wellbeing through curricular and extra-curricular initiatives
  • Assisting with all facets of the accreditation processes

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree certification alongside a certified teaching qualification, such as a valid US Teaching/leadership license or its equivalent
  • A Master’s in education
  • Previous experience as Head of Secondary is preferred
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience
  • A minimum of 3 years in secondary leadership
  • Experience in international schools with the IB is advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the MYP and DP
