About This Role

Key Purpose

The individual in this role will lead, manage, and take responsibility for monitoring progress, overseeing curriculum planning, supporting the Behaviour for Learning Policy, and engaging with parents to further the school’s vision.

As part of the Extended Leadership Team, the individual will be expected to:

  • Clearly express a vision for their Key Stage that aligns with the school’s ethos and mission.
  • Lead, manage, coordinate, maintain, develop, monitor, and assess the progress of children within their Key Stage.
  • Actively participate in planning, resource management, policy development, and implementation across the school through effective leadership and management of their specific Key Stage.
  • Contribute fully to maintaining high expectations and standards in all aspects of school life.
  • Adapt flexibly to support the daily organization and management of the school.
  • Be accountable to the designated Senior Leader and ultimately to the Principal/CEO.
  • Participate in the school’s Performance Development Programme when appropriate.

Aspects of the Role of Assistant Head Teacher

There are five key areas that support the achievement of the Key Purpose:

  • Encouraging and ensuring student development, progress, and well-being.
  • Leading teaching and learning while managing policy within the context of the Year group.
  • Leading and managing staff and teams.
  • Managing resources effectively.
  • Advocating for and representing the Key Stage.

Promoting and Ensuring High Performance Learning at WSD

The responsibilities include promoting HPL by ensuring:

  • Leadership among staff promotes the High-Performance philosophy and framework as an achievable objective for everyone.
  • A culture of teaching and performance characterized by positive attitudes and practices.
  • Improvement in learner outcomes (ACPs, VAAs, achievements).
  • Support for the strategic professional development program.
  • Fostering a professional community of practice among educators.
  • Assisting with the formal HPL accreditation process to verify our adherence to HPL World Class School standards.

The role also includes fostering a positive learning environment by ensuring:

  • Support for transition arrangements throughout the school.
  • A commitment to equal opportunities and student entitlements.
  • Adherence to the school code of conduct and dress code.
  • Promotion of good behavior in classrooms and throughout the school.
  • Establishment of internal structures within the Key Stage to encourage positive behavior and manage disciplinary issues in collaboration with the Student Welfare and House Team.
  • Setting appropriate progress targets for the Key Stage in coordination with the Head of School.
  • Analyzing and forecasting trends, such as attendance, attainment, assessment, and marking, to identify improvement opportunities in collaboration with the Head of School.
  • Collaboration with the ELT and SLT for referrals and reviews of individual cases.
  • Cultivating a positive ethos that reflects a commitment by all teaching staff to high achievement, excellent behavior, an effective learning environment, good relationships, and equal opportunity for all.
  • Regular inclusion of student feedback in the evaluation of assessments and attainment.
  • Active observation of and participation in Key Stage activities.
  • Encouraging student involvement in enrichment activities in conjunction with the Student Welfare and House Team.
  • Developing proactive relationships with external agencies.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
