Elementary Teacher - Grade 5 (Full-Time Position)

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and skilled individual to fill the role of Grade Five (5) Teacher at Father Megret Elementary School located in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. In this role, you will utilize your strong interpersonal skills and commitment to project-based learning to foster an engaging educational environment for students.

Serving the Denesuline First Nations communities of Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation in northern Saskatchewan, ADEA supports approximately 1,400 students. We focus on improving educational outcomes by integrating advanced technology, testing innovative programs, and incorporating Denesuline culture into our curriculum.

This position is open to all applicants residing in Canada, with a preference given to First Nation or other Indigenous candidates who meet the specified qualifications and competencies for the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be aware of any allergies that students may have.
  • Establish clear instructional goals to promote a positive learning atmosphere, reflecting Denesuline culture and language.
  • Create opportunities for peer interaction, social skill enhancement, and familiarity with school routines to establish a strong foundation for future academic achievement.
  • Prepare materials ahead of time to ensure readiness for both the classroom and educators upon student arrival.
  • Foster family engagement in the learning journey and develop a welcoming environment that invites parents into the classroom.
  • Conduct daily assessments and keep track of student progress.
  • Follow cleaning protocols to ensure that all reusable materials are sanitized in compliance with COVID guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Patience, adaptability, keen observation, and a passion for education are essential qualities.
  • Strong communication skills, encompassing verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, and empathy, are required.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Effective Practices, Policies and Guidelines, and the Saskatchewan Curriculum is important.
  • Commitment to adhering to the provincial Ministry of Education curricula while focusing on the holistic development of children across social-emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual areas.
  • Actively engage with families, children, and community members to gain insights into their backgrounds and experiences, fostering an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and professional information.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an equivalent qualification is essential.
  • Must be eligible for or possess a valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with children is required.
  • Experience teaching First Nations students in a remote community is advantageous.
  • First Aid Certification is a plus.
  • Additional training or experience in the field of education.
