Elementary Teacher - Grade 3 (Full-Time Position)

The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is seeking a passionate, skilled, and motivated individual to fill the role of Grade 3 Teacher at Father Megret Elementary School in Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to innovative project-based teaching, and the ability to create an engaging learning environment for students.

The ADEA serves three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan: Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation, with an overall student population of approximately 1,400. We aim to improve educational outcomes through the integration of advanced technology, the implementation of progressive programs, and the incorporation of Denesuline culture into our curriculum and teaching practices.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Be attentive to any allergies that students may have.
  • Develop clear instructional guidance to cultivate a positive learning atmosphere anchored in Denesuline culture and language.
  • Create opportunities for children to engage with their peers, enhance social skills, learn school routines, and establish a strong foundation for future academic achievement.
  • Prepare materials in advance to ensure a ready and stimulating environment for children upon their arrival.
  • Encourage family involvement in the learning process and foster an inviting classroom setting that promotes parental engagement.
  • Assess and document student learning on a daily basis.
  • Assist children with self-care tasks including dressing, diapering, and feeding.
  • Comply with cleaning protocols, ensuring that all reusable materials are sanitized and that dishes and utensils are thoroughly cleaned before leaving for the day.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must exhibit patience, adaptability, observational skills, and a genuine passion for teaching.
  • Possess strong communication skills, including both verbal and nonverbal, active listening, and empathy.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the following programs and assessments: Play and Exploration: Early Learning Program Guide; Early Years Evaluation (EYE); Prekindergarten Essentials: Effective Practices, Policies and Guidelines; and the Saskatchewan Curriculum.
  • Adhere to the provincial Ministry of Education curricula while emphasizing holistic child development across social-emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual domains.
  • Actively engage with families, children, and community members to appreciate their diverse backgrounds and experiences, thus fostering an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and professional matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate.
