Performing Arts Teacher (Music)

Reports to: Head of School

Location: Westlink International School, Hanoi

Position Type: Full-time

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and high-quality Music and Performing Arts lessons in line with the school’s curriculum and standards.
  • Foster students’ understanding of music through performance, composition, theory, and appreciation of diverse musical traditions.
  • Incorporate drama, movement, and interdisciplinary projects to enrich students’ performing arts experience.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages creativity, confidence, and collaboration.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Design and implement formative and summative assessments consistent with IB principles.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular, constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to student reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences as required.

Performance and Events

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate school performances, concerts, assemblies, and exhibitions.
  • Support student participation in extracurricular performing arts activities (e.g., choirs, bands, talent shows, and productions).
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate performing arts into schoolwide events and interdisciplinary learning experiences.

Collaboration and Community

  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the performing arts curriculum and promote interdisciplinary connections across subjects.
  • Participate actively in department meetings, curriculum planning, and whole-school initiatives.
  • Engage parents and the wider school community in performances and showcases.
  • Promote the values of creativity, respect, and teamwork through the performing arts programme.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in IB and school professional learning activities to support continuous growth.
  • Stay up to date with current developments in music and performing arts education.
  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Westlink International School.
  • Ensure student safety and wellbeing during all lessons, rehearsals, and performances.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in an IB school environment.
  • Strong musicianship and performance skills (vocal and/or instrumental).
  • Experience directing performances, ensembles, or theatrical productions.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
