About This Role

At the International School of Luxembourg, our educational philosophy is centered around curiosity, connection, and purpose.

We are currently seeking a Lower School Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator who is inspired by the transformative impact of the IB Primary Years Programme and firmly believes in the importance of inquiry, conceptual understanding, and empowering students.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity for a principled and relational leader to make a meaningful contribution to a vibrant learning community where students, educators, and families flourish together.

What Will You Do?

The Lower School Assistant Principal / PYP Coordinator will primarily function as an educational leader—someone who brings people together around a shared vision for outstanding, inquiry-driven learning.

As a key member of the Lower School Leadership Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the coherence, integrity, and continuous improvement of the PYP and the Lower School curriculum.

Your leadership will be founded on relationships, influence, and trust, fostering an environment that emphasizes collaboration, reflection, and ongoing professional development as central to teaching and learning.

Who Are You?

You are a thoughtful, student-centered educator and leader who:

  • Embodies the IB mission and demonstrates the IB Learner Profile in both actions and mindset.
  • Leads with authenticity, empathy, and respect, nurturing strong relationships within the school community.
  • Creates an environment of psychological safety, encouraging teachers to take risks, engage in open reflection, and pursue professional development.
  • Navigates complexity with care, flexibility, and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Is committed to inclusive, culturally responsive practices within a diverse international community.
  • Shows a deep dedication to student wellbeing, agency, and holistic development.
  • Engages with innovative practices—including AI—through a human-centered and ethical perspective.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • A comprehensive understanding of the IB Primary Years Programme, with the experience and capability to enhance others' understanding and capacity.
  • Leadership experience in an IB PYP international school across various educational environments.
  • Advanced professional training or certification in a relevant area, alongside a minimum of three years of successful experience in a similar leadership role.
  • A valid teaching certification and a proven track record as an effective educator.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate professional development for educators and workshops for parents.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in an additional language is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of how technology can effectively enhance student learning, along with a readiness to adopt new technologies.
  • Experience with data-driven decision-making, including data collection, analysis, visualization, and the use of curriculum and learning management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proven adaptability and professionalism when faced with complex or challenging situations.
  • Highly collaborative and consultative, able to work successfully with colleagues across various roles and teams.
  • Comfortable engaging in difficult conversations, managing professional disagreements, and encouraging constructive dialogue to improve practice.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in supporting and implementing agreed decisions while thoughtfully contributing to collective decision-making processes.
  • AI Literacy skills: understands AI principles, explores AI applications, directs AI use effectively, evaluates AI outputs, and utilizes AI responsibly.
