ROLE SUMMARY:
Vilamoura International School (CIV), a leading educational institution situated in southern Portugal, offers Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through a combination of national and international curricula, including Cambridge programs.
Set against a unique natural backdrop with an extensive 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has dedicated over 40 years to fostering an educational framework that emphasizes early learning, inquiry-based education, and a values-driven approach grounded in democratic and humanistic principles.
CIV seeks a Biology Teacher (IB background preferred) for a role starting in August 2026. The successful candidate will engage and inspire students through energetic and challenging instruction, cultivate essential scientific skills, ignite curiosity and critical thinking, and support the comprehensive academic, social, and emotional development of each student.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and implement Biology lessons that comply with the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) frameworks and relevant curriculum standards.
•
Improve students’ scientific inquiry, analytical reasoning, research skills, and practical laboratory abilities through an inquiry-based learning strategy.
•
Create and carry out units of inquiry that embody the IB philosophy, integrating key concepts, global contexts, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
•
Assess, monitor, and document student progress in alignment with IB assessment practices, offering clear, constructive, and ongoing feedback.
•
Promote scientific literacy, environmental awareness, and ethical comprehension through the study of biological systems, processes, and real-world applications.

Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs, paces, and styles of students.
•
Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment, ensuring safe and effective laboratory practices.
•
Collaborate with colleagues, the IB coordination team, and parents, engaging actively in pedagogical meetings and ongoing professional development.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
•
A degree in Biology, Science, Education, or a related field.
•
Experience in teaching Biology, preferably within an IB (MYP/DP) or international school setting.
•
In-depth subject knowledge and a strong grasp of IB teaching methodologies, focusing on inquiry-based and hands-on learning.
•
Ability to create a positive, safe, inclusive, and intellectually engaging educational environment.
•
Outstanding communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
•
A strong commitment to the academic, social, and emotional development of students, in line with IB principles and the IB Learner Profile.
