ROLE SUMMARY:

Vilamoura International School (CIV) stands as a premier educational establishment in southern Portugal, providing Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through both national and international curricula, including Cambridge Assessment International Education programs.

CIV is committed to achieving academic excellence and is in search of a Physics Teacher (IB background preferred) for a position commencing in August 2026. The successful candidate will inspire students through dynamic and challenging instruction, develop essential scientific and mathematical reasoning capabilities, encourage curiosity and critical thought, and support the academic, social, and emotional development of each student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Plan and conduct Physics lessons in accordance with the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) frameworks and pertinent curriculum standards.


Enhance students’ scientific inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and laboratory skills through an inquiry-based learning methodology.


Create and execute units of inquiry that reflect the IB philosophy, incorporating key concepts, global contexts, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.


Evaluate, track, and document student progress following IB assessment guidelines, offering clear, constructive, and ongoing feedback.


Encourage scientific literacy and real-world relevance through the exploration of fundamental Physics themes such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics.


Tailor teaching methods to accommodate the diverse learning needs, paces, and styles of students.


Foster a positive, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning atmosphere, ensuring safe and effective laboratory practices.


Work collaboratively with colleagues, the IB coordination team, and parents, actively engaging in pedagogical meetings and continuous professional development initiatives.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


A degree in Physics, Science, Education, or a related discipline.


Experience teaching Physics, ideally within an IB (MYP/DP) or international school environment.


Strong subject knowledge and a thorough understanding of IB teaching methodologies, particularly those emphasizing inquiry-based and hands-on learning.


Proficiency in creating a positive, safe, inclusive, and intellectually engaging learning space.


Outstanding communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.


A deep commitment to fostering students’ academic, social, and emotional growth, consistent with IB principles and the IB Learner Profile.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
