Position Overview:

We are in search of a passionate and energetic Middle School Counselor to become a part of our committed team starting in August 2026.

This role presents a thrilling opportunity for a counselor dedicated to education and keen to make a significant impact on our students' academic journeys.

Job Purpose

To arrange and deliver academic, personal, social, and emotional counseling for students.

Job Scope

You will hold the overall responsibility for creating and executing a counseling program that aligns with the needs of the school and its students, ensuring they thrive in all areas of their lives.

Key Responsibilities:

Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.

•
Develop procedures and timelines to provide academic, personal, social, emotional, and psychological counseling to students.

•
Facilitate the transition process for students.

•
Create protocols for obtaining external support for students facing personal challenges and emotional needs.

•
Collaborate with senior management to design experiences and activities that enhance students’ holistic development, fostering responsibility, leadership, cooperation, and other essential personal and social skills.

•
Keep comprehensive student records on progress, achievements, activities, and interests, monitoring student progress through all available data and evidence.

•
Implement proactive measures and procedures to address bullying.

•
Administer appropriate testing programs to assess student aptitude and achievement.

•
Establish systems to promptly inform parents about any issues related to classroom performance, schoolwork, or behavior.

•
Ensure adherence to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.

•
Demonstrate commitment by initiating efforts beyond the standard workday when necessary.

•
Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as required.

•
Carry out additional responsibilities as directed by direct or dotted line managers/supervisors.

Successful candidates will possess:

•
A Bachelor of Education degree, or an initial degree coupled with a relevant qualification in psychology or counseling.

•
A minimum of one year of school-based experience or prior work with schools and students in a counseling role.

•
Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of empathy.

•
The ability to forge strong relationships with students and earn their trust.

•
A clear understanding of the necessity for confidentiality and discretion.

•
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

•
A strong commitment to enhancing their practice and delivering exceptional counseling services to students.

•
Availability to commence in August 2026.
