About This Role

THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled, enthusiastic, and adaptable Primary Homeroom Teacher to commence in August 2026. The ideal candidate will have the ability to inspire students and demonstrate a commitment to supporting the aspirations, values, and diverse aspects of school life.

CONTRACT TYPE:

Full-time, two-year contract with the potential for extension based on performance.

START DATE: August 2026

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

I. QUALIFICATION

Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (UK), PGCE, or a Degree in Primary Education.

NQT: Exceptional NQTs may be considered for inclusion in our teaching team.

II. EXPERIENCE

The preferred candidate will possess:

• A minimum of two years of teaching experience within KS I II education in the UK.

• Confidence and experience in teaching students aged 6-12.

III. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential: The chosen candidate should demonstrate:

• A solid understanding and experience with the KS I II curriculum framework.

• Insight into how children's learning is influenced by their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development, along with an understanding of the various stages of child development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Summary

• Fulfill the teaching and professional responsibilities of a primary class teacher while maintaining the standards for Qualified Teacher Status in accordance with school policies and guidelines.

• Foster a culture of learning and enthusiasm for life among students.

• Engage with parents in a professional manner.

• Contribute to the development of the curriculum at SPGS International.

• Collaborate with fellow teachers, especially the classroom's Chinese Co-teacher, to plan lessons, exchange ideas, and share professional insights.

• Stay informed about developments from the Department for Education and lead the department in curricular knowledge.

• Adhere to both UK and People’s Republic of China laws and educational policies.

General

• Follow school policies and procedures at SPGS International.

• Embody the School’s values and ethos.

• Serve as a positive role model regarding speech, attire, behavior, and care for equipment as outlined in our Staff Code of Conduct.

• Meet deadlines consistently.

Safeguarding

• Respect and value each child's cultural, social, and religious background, demonstrating mutual respect and tolerance.

• Abide by SPGS International’s safeguarding policy concerning students' health and safety while on and off school premises during school hours.

• Acknowledge that health and safety are responsibilities for all employees, taking reasonable care of oneself and others, and complying with the school's wellbeing and safeguarding policies and the laws of The People’s Republic of China, along with any specific procedures applicable to this role.

• Participate in assemblies, register student attendance, and supervise children.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING & TEACHING

• Create syllabuses, work schemes, and assessment criteria/materials for KS I II aligned with the UK National Curriculum, the requirements of the Chinese education authority, and SPGS International’s enriched local curriculum.

• Help design an innovative, localized curriculum for KS I II students that enables them to thrive academically and personally.

• Ensure that school values and personal objectives are reflected in daily teaching practices.

• Contribute to planning school events, including enrichment activities and the long-term curriculum map.

Pastoral Care

• Use daily morning registration to perform part of the pastoral role.

• Adhere to the Pastoral Role guidance outlined in the SPGS International teachers’ handbook.

• Take an active interest in students' experiences, both in academic and extracurricular contexts, ensuring they feel valued and cared for.

• Share responsibility for the pastoral care, health, welfare, and behavior of all students, particularly those in your designated class.

• Lead Personal Development programs with your form group.

• Oversee the work of class/form students, providing guidance and support as needed.

• Maintain relevant records for individual student files and prepare reports.

• Coordinate the buddy program to facilitate regular student interactions across year groups.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

• Engage in the school’s Professional Performance Review and teaching professional development programs.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

Staff Wellbeing

• Regularly monitor, assess, and maintain records of student progress as required.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

• Uphold the behavioral expectations set by SPGS International School, ensuring students adhere to dress codes, punctuality, and school rules across all settings and activities (including external events).

CLASSROOM, SCHOOL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND DISPLAY

• Ensure that the classroom and school environment are well-organized, inviting, and maintained.

• Manage classroom resources effectively, ensuring accessibility for students.

• Create a stimulating and relevant learning atmosphere, regularly updating displays based on classroom activities.

HOMEWORK

• Assign appropriate and challenging homework for students.

• Collaborate with colleagues to design, share, and monitor homework assignments.

ICT/AI AND GDPR

• Comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and SPGS International’s data protection policies.

• Enhance ICT skills to make optimal use of available technology while ensuring students develop their own skill sets.

SCHOOL MEETINGS

• Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings, including department, year group, teaching and learning development, and curriculum meetings.

• Engage in parents’ evenings and other events, which may occur in the evenings or on weekends, as requested by the Headteacher.

SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES

• Deliver at least three school assemblies during the academic year, incorporating whole-class presentations.

SCHOOL ENRICHMENT EVENTS/ACTIVITIES

• Assist in planning, organizing, or delivering enrichment day events and related activities as needed.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR DUTIES

• Lead or supervise a minimum of one extracurricular activity each week as part of the school's program.

• Support and help organize sports activities, school concerts, and field trips as required.

DUTY AND COVER

• Supervise students during unstructured times as scheduled in the duty rota.

• Collaborate with colleagues and adapt flexibly to cover staff absences as necessary.

RISK MANAGEMENT

• Adhere to the school's risk management policy, ensuring all events/activities (including off-campus trips) are safe, educational, and enjoyable, in collaboration with the Head of Primary School.

• Help maintain the safety and security of all students and staff, promptly reporting any concerns to the Head of Primary School or designated personnel.

COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS

• Follow SPGS International school policies regarding parent communication; establish and maintain strong relationships with parents of students in your care.

• Ensure parents and students are well-informed about the curriculum, progression, and ways they can contribute to improvement areas.

• Attend parents’ evenings as required.

• Participate in parent education seminars or other events as requested by the school.

AMBASSADOR FOR THE SCHOOL

• Foster high-quality relationships with all stakeholders.

• Encourage a sense of community among staff, parents, and students that supports the school's vision and mission.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Compensation

£2,700 - £3,200 per month (Initial Flights + Relocation Allowance + International Insurance + Housing Allowance + Annual Flights)
