Runnymede College, a private, non-denominational British school located in Madrid, is committed to delivering a British education to children of all nationalities, starting from age two and continuing to age eighteen. Our academic framework follows the British National Curriculum.
Founded as a private institution in September 1967, our primary school began its journey in 1987. Since 1990, we have been located in La Moraleja, in the northern area of Madrid. The school is divided into three sections: Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8), and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).
Runnymede College is renowned for its academic success. In June 2025, 57% of our students achieved A-A* grades at A level, exceeding the 48% A*-A grades attained by independent schools across England this year. Moreover, 67% of our students received A*-A grades at IGCSE, a remarkable result compared to the 48% A*-A grades in the English independent school sector.
For the class of 2025, 83% of students transitioning to the UK will attend Top 10 universities as per the Sunday Times Good University Guide rankings. Notable UK institutions accepting this year’s graduates include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, and LSE. Students pursuing higher education in the US are commencing their journeys at prestigious colleges such as Harvard, Columbia, UPenn, and Brown, among others.
Some of our students will continue their education in Spain at top institutions like ICADE, IE, and ICAI, while others will attend leading universities in France and Ireland.

Job Overview
As the Pre-Prep School Head of Music, you will be responsible for delivering Music lessons to students in Year 1 through Year 5.
Music is taught to all students from Year 1 to Year 9 weekly by a team of three classroom teachers. IGCSE and A level Music are optional subjects available for students in Years 10 to 13, with classes offered each year. A group of visiting instrumental instructors prepares many students for examinations with Trinity College London, covering both classical and contemporary music styles.
The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing musical contributions to assemblies and various school-wide events. Our young musicians are provided with numerous opportunities to perform, both in large concerts and during significant occasions such as assemblies and award ceremonies.
Core Duties:
- Teaching and Learning
- Create and deliver engaging music lessons tailored for students in Year 1 to Year 5.
- Encourage musical development in areas such as singing, rhythm, listening, movement, and basic instrumental skills.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs, talents, and learning styles of students.
- Integrate music into broader curriculum themes where suitable.
- Assess and track student progress in line with school policies.
- Curriculum Development
- Support the planning and enhancement of a well-rounded Pre-Prep music curriculum.
- The music curriculum is expected to highlight singing.
- Select age-appropriate songs, repertoire, and resources that engage and inspire students, focusing on how in-class music education enriches performance experiences.
- Ensure alignment with the school’s values and educational goals, in accordance with school policies.
- Performances and Events
- Organize and lead music for school assemblies, including student performances and singing.
- Direct or assist with seasonal shows, concerts, and school events (e.g., year group showcases, Christmas, and year-end celebrations).
- Create opportunities for students to perform confidently in both formal and informal settings.
