About This Role

Opportunity

The Canadian School of Florence is on the lookout for a PE and Biology instructor who will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Ontario PE and Biology curriculum for Middle and High School students. The successful applicant will design programs that are stimulating, pertinent, and aimed at fostering a lifelong enthusiasm for physical activity.

Teaching & Learning

  • Design, implement, and assess high-caliber instruction in:
    • Healthy Active Living (PE+Health) for Grades 9–11
    • Biology for Grades 11–12
    • Kinesiology for Grade 12 University Preparation
  • Create engaging, inquiry-driven lessons that meet the standards of the Ontario curriculum.
  • Effectively teach courses that combine different grade levels when required.
  • Tailor instruction to meet the varied needs of learners, including those for whom English is an additional language.
  • Integrate literacy strategies to improve reading, writing, scientific vocabulary, and academic language skills.
  • Utilize a range of assessment and evaluation techniques in line with Ontario Ministry guidelines.
  • Foster safe, inclusive, and respectful environments within both classroom and athletic facilities.

Coaching & Athletics

  • Coach and support school teams in:
    • Football
    • Basketball
    • Volleyball
  • Plan and facilitate practices, training sessions, and competitions.
  • Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and promote the well-being of students.
  • Help cultivate a positive and inclusive athletic culture in an international school environment.

Student Support & Collaboration

  • Support students in their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and initiatives for school improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in an international context.
  • Participate in co-curricular and community activities.

Your Profile

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or an equivalent);
  • Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or an international teaching qualification in good standing;
  • Qualified to teach elementary and middle school levels;
  • Native English speaker.

EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching PE;
  • Demonstrates creativity, passion for teaching, and a strong work ethic;
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching and learning approaches;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills;
  • Good organizational and time management abilities;
  • Commitment to the school’s mission and vision, along with its academic and co-curricular objectives;
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to create distinctive learning experiences for students;
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, adaptable, and supportive team environment;
  • Dedication to safeguarding and promoting equality;
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality;
  • High standards in teaching, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Experience in independent schools, along with involvement in coaching or extracurricular activities, is a plus.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
