About This Role
Head of History
MPS/UPS + TLR2b
North Durham Academy
Are you an exceptional History teacher ready to lead, inspire and make a lasting impact? We are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Head of History to lead our department and drive outstanding outcomes for students.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented educator with a passion for History and a commitment to excellence. You will provide strategic leadership for the department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, an engaging curriculum, and a culture where both students and staff can thrive.
Working closely alongside the Head of Humanities, you will play a key role in shaping the vision and direction of the wider Humanities faculty while leading the continued development of History. Together, you will champion high standards, curriculum innovation and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for all students.
As Head of History, you will be responsible for raising standards of achievement, supporting colleagues to deliver outstanding lessons and ensuring that History remains a dynamic, engaging and highly successful subject. Working with senior leaders and the Head of Humanities, you will use data effectively to secure strong student progress, lead curriculum development, and ensure that all learners are challenged and supported to achieve their full potential.
We are looking for someone who is an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes for students. You will have the ability to inspire young people, motivate colleagues and foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement. Leadership experience within a secondary school setting is essential, together with strong organisational and communication skills and a commitment to professional development.
In return, we offer the opportunity to work within a supportive and ambitious school community where staff development is valued, leadership is encouraged and success is celebrated. This role would suit an experienced middle leader seeking a broader leadership opportunity, or an ambitious teacher looking to take the next step in their career.
If you have the vision, passion and determination to lead a successful History department and work collaboratively with the Head of Humanities to shape an exceptional Humanities provision, we would love to hear from you.
Please note that we operate a probationary period of 4 months across all jobs in the Trust. You will receive a comprehensive induction to support you to successfully pass your probation.
