Responsibilities
Main Duties
- Lead curriculum development and resource distribution for a Key Stage.
- Review and adapt schemes of work in response to evolving pedagogical and curriculum needs.
- Support the Head of Department in improving teaching, learning, and assessment outcomes.
- Ensure students are adequately prepared for examinations and assessments.
- Identify staffing and resource needs while effectively managing teaching materials.
- Keep the department informed on relevant curriculum updates.
- Organize enrichment activities and events to enhance student engagement.
- Standardize departmental practices, including assessment and assignment protocols.
- Contribute to staff recruitment, performance management, and professional development, including induction processes.
- Evaluate teaching standards through lesson observations and departmental assessments.
- Guide and inspire team members while ensuring effective communication within the department.
- Monitor student progress, identify underachievement, and implement targeted interventions.
- Foster and maintain a positive and effective learning environment.
- Represent the department in interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Act on behalf of the Head of Department when necessary and undertake additional agreed responsibilities.
Strategic Direction & Development
- Develop and implement policies to ensure high-quality outcomes across all key stages.
- Assess teaching, learning, and departmental practices, evaluating their impact on student progress and identifying areas for improvement.
- Promote a positive ethos, high achievement, and staff commitment to shared goals.
- Contribute to a unified department development plan that aligns with the overall school priorities.
Learning & Teaching
- Track student progress through data analysis, observations, work reviews, and stakeholder feedback.
- Identify staff development needs through performance management and ensure appropriate support is available.
- Implement strategies, including new technologies, to enhance teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate outstanding classroom practices and engage external expertise when beneficial.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Set clear expectations and foster effective communication within the team.
