About This Role

Birley Academy is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Teacher of Design & Technology to join our committed and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled practitioner who is passionate about delivering a high‑quality, ambitious Design and Technology curriculum that develops pupils’ practical skills, technical understanding and creativity. We especially welcome applicants with a specialism in Engineering or Resistant Materials, though all Design and Technology professions are considered.

You will plan and deliver well‑structured, engaging lessons that enable pupils to know more, remember more and apply their learning over time. You will create a safe, organised and stimulating workshop environment with strong routines and high expectations. Regular use of assessment to check understanding, address misconceptions and secure strong progress is essential.

As part of our team, you will contribute to curriculum development, enrichment opportunities, and whole‑school priorities focused on improving consistency, literacy and outcomes. Strong teamwork and effective communication with pupils, parents and colleagues are essential. A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and supporting all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged backgrounds is vital.

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will:

  • Has strong subject knowledge in Design & Technology (Engineering/Resistant Materials desirable) and the ability to teach GSCE level.
  • Delivers well‑sequenced lessons that challenge, inspire and engage learners
  • Uses assessment effectively to monitor progress and adapt teaching
  • Maintains excellent workshop and classroom management, with a clear focus on health & safety
  • Demonstrates high expectations of behaviour, attitude and the quality of pupils’ work
  • Understands how to meet the needs of all learners through effective differentiation
  • Works well as part of a team and contributes to continuous improvement
  • Is professional, reflective, resilient and committed to their own development

Why join us?

At L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, we believe that great schools rely on dedicated teams working together. You will be part of a supportive Trust committed to Leading, Empowering, Achieving and Driving success for our pupils and staff.
