Our mission is to provide outstanding education, enabling every young person to succeed in their lives. To fulfill this vision, we must attract, nurture, and reward the essential element – you.

Job Introduction
We are in search of an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of Science to become part of our vibrant and supportive department. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning to enhance academic success. With all three sciences being highly sought after at A Level, you will have the chance to refine your A Level teaching skills, contribute to our extensive enrichment program, and share your expertise across a growing network of Academies and independent schools within United Learning.

As a Teacher of Science, you will be a committed and passionate educator, responsible for ensuring the rapid progress of your students. We understand that exceptional teachers possess transferable skills and are effective in every aspect of their role. We also acknowledge the importance of providing support and challenges to help you reach your full potential – and we are committed to making that happen.

This position welcomes both experienced qualified teachers and early career teachers. Regardless of your experience level, we take pride in our teacher training offerings. For Early Career Teachers, we provide tailored weekly mentoring, online self-study resources, and regular feedback, in partnership with Ambition Institute for training delivery. You will resonate with the Academy’s ethos of “the best in everyone” and enjoy engaging with a rich and diverse student body within a lively learning atmosphere. Walthamstow Academy is sponsored by United Learning. As part of the largest network of Academies and independent schools, we provide exceptional professional development and career advancement opportunities in both the maintained and independent sectors.

To summarize, we are looking for an individual who is truly passionate about making a difference; we encourage you to reach out.

Main Responsibilities
· Encourage all pupils to aspire to the highest standards and cultivate positive learning attitudes
· Enable all pupils to achieve their maximum potential
· Actively contribute to the personalized learning experience and the success of all students you teach or support
· Foster students’ interest in your subject and highlight its significance in their overall learning journey

Working for us
Walthamstow Academy celebrated the opening of its impressive new building in 2006 and has since achieved remarkable results at both GCSE and A Level. In 2024, our students obtained a Progress 8 score of 0.49. Our A-Level results are exceptional, with many students progressing to Russell Group universities. Due to our success, the school is now full and oversubscribed based on first choice applications alone.

These results are not coincidental. At Walthamstow Academy, we believe in the best for everyone. We maintain a relentless focus on high expectations, aiming to identify barriers to success and provide timely support to ensure our students achieve. We do not accept excuses and consistently strive for excellence.

The Academy takes pride in its multicultural environment, celebrating the diverse heritage of our community. 90% of our students come from minority ethnic backgrounds, with many hailing from African, Caribbean, Eastern European, Turkish, and Pakistani communities. The Academy serves a community with social and economic challenges, with 35% of students eligible for Pupil Premium. Almost 60% of our students speak a first language other than English, and many enter with low levels of literacy. Our dedicated staff work diligently to enhance their performance, with standards across the Academy exceeding national averages in most subjects.

The Academy is conveniently located near the North Circular Road, M11, and both Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central underground stations, making central London accessible in about half an hour. Our location offers relatively affordable housing options and easy access to Epping Forest, the Lee Valley, and the rural areas of Hertfordshire and Essex.

Walthamstow Academy has received the CPLD Gold Award in recognition of our commitment to professional development. We understand that our achievements are made possible by our outstanding staff, and we appreciate your interest in joining our community. It all begins with someone like you believing in your ability to contribute.

What we Offer
At Walthamstow Academy, we are dedicated to ensuring our staff feel valued and appreciated, which includes providing attractive employee benefits.

The Westfield Health Cash Plan is available to all employees after six months of service, offering access to 24/7 virtual GP consultations, quick specialist health service access, and the ability to claim back some expenses for treatments you may currently be covering yourself. This plan also covers dependent children (up to age 22) and offers options for enhanced coverage or adding other adult family members at an additional cost.

We recognize that flexible working plays a crucial role in attracting, retaining, developing, and rewarding exceptional staff. We are committed to promoting and facilitating flexible working arrangements at Walthamstow Academy.

Through Westfield Health Rewards, we provide access to over 250 exclusive benefits via an easy-to-use platform and app. This includes a wide array of offers, from discounted cinema tickets and vacations to savings on dining out, groceries, technology, and clothing.

Discounted gym memberships are also available through Westfield Health Rewards, giving you access to discounts at over 3000 gyms across the country. Additionally, we offer free access to our school gym 24/7, along with weekly sporting tournaments. The Academy features its own gym!

The Cycle2Work Scheme allows you to acquire a bicycle and equipment such as lights, locks, and panniers for commuting and leisure. As a salary sacrifice scheme, this enables savings through income tax and NI deductions.

Our Car Lease Scheme, in partnership with SG Fleet, offers great discounts on car leasing through a direct debit system. You can also exchange a portion of your gross salary for any low CO2 emission vehicle you choose.

We prioritize staff wellbeing and ensure all members feel valued and recognized. In addition to other benefits, we offer one paid personal day annually to all staff.
