About This Role

High School English Teacher

We are on the lookout for a High School English teacher to educate students in Grades 9-12. For grades 9 and 10, our curriculum is a distinctive mix of original English content inspired by the IB philosophy and learner profile, designed to prepare students for IB challenges and their future university endeavors, both in Turkey and abroad. Our students are evaluated in English as their primary language, using Literature as a basis to develop and assess their language capabilities. Since our high school students may have enrolled at different stages—kindergarten, grade 1, grade 5, or grade 9—we provide differentiated instruction to accommodate the varying English proficiency levels present in our student population.

The position entails teaching various levels within the high school English program, which may include IB English A: Language and Literature. Our school offers a bilingual qualification at the IB Diploma level, allowing students to choose between the IB or Turkish national curriculum track upon entering the 11th grade.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop units, lessons, and assessments that align with our English standards, school mission, and social-emotional learning (SEL) goals.
- Provide engaging, student-focused instruction that addresses the diverse needs of learners in the classroom.
- Offer timely and constructive feedback to students throughout each unit.
- Maintain high academic standards while providing necessary support to assist students in meeting those expectations.
- Evaluate student comprehension through a variety of methods, adapting teaching strategies based on assessment outcomes, and monitoring the progress of students who are struggling to achieve standards.
- Communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed about their child’s progress in English.
- Collaborate effectively with level leaders, the Head of Department, the Assessments and Evaluation team, and the Academic Dean.
- Actively engage in school activities by attending events and leading extracurricular initiatives.
- Take on any additional responsibilities assigned by the school leadership team.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- A continuous passion for educational practices and all dimensions of teaching and learning.
- A willingness to contribute positively to the collaborative environment of the English department and the broader school community.
- Excellent native or near-native proficiency in English, along with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal abilities, facilitating effective and positive interactions with all members of the school community.
- Competence in incorporating technology into lessons.
- A readiness and capability to integrate Social Emotional Learning into the English curriculum framework.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to necessary changes.

Required qualifications include:

- A Bachelor’s degree in English or English Literature, as well as a professional teaching qualification, is essential.
- At least two years of teaching experience in high school English is required.
- Familiarity and experience with teaching IB English A: Language and Literature is preferred.
- A demonstrated commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people is necessary.
