Teacher – Additional Learning Support Needs (ALSN) (Job Ref#A158-26-27)

The successful candidate will enhance student learning within the Primary Curriculum as part of the ALSN Team, assisting students in developing effective strategies to meet specific learning needs. Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and an internationally recognized teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, a Bachelor of Education, or H.Dip.Ed, along with a minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience. A postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Working alongside learning support colleagues to implement systems for identifying, assessing, and reviewing special educational needs.
  • Addressing achievement gaps to support students in reaching high learning standards.
  • Communicating with classroom teachers regarding factors that affect student progress.
  • Identifying and recommending effective teaching strategies tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Assisting in overcoming learning barriers through individual, small group, and in-class instruction.
  • Collaborating with classroom and subject teachers to ensure that students with additional educational needs can effectively access the curriculum.
  • Supporting classroom and subject teachers in creating and implementing Learning Support Plans across all phases.
  • Executing and assessing Individual Education Plans and other relevant interventions while maintaining thorough documentation for future consultations with parents and/or external agencies.
  • Partnering with specialists such as Guidance Counsellors, Speech and Language / Occupational Therapists, and Educational Psychologists.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of personal teaching and interventions by monitoring student progress.
  • Aiding classroom teachers and subject specialists in promoting self-esteem and independence in supported students, encouraging their participation in all school activities.
  • Assisting the SENDCo in the strategic development of learning support policies and provisions.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Familiarity with the British curriculum is preferred.
  • Essential experience and understanding of teaching children with learning challenges, including dyscalculia, dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, autism, and social, emotional, and mental health needs, or a combination of these difficulties.
  • Current knowledge of the revised English curriculum.
