About This Role

Taumarunui Primary School invites applications for the position of Principal. We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic educational leader to guide our school community in achieving the highest quality teaching and learning outcomes for all students.

About the role

You will foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where every learner is supported to succeed and develop as confident, capable individuals.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and promote high-quality teaching and learning across the school.
  • Develop and implement the school’s strategic and annual plans.
  • Promote culturally responsive practices and support the integration of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
  • Build positive relationships with staff, students, whānau, and the wider community.
  • Ensure effective management of school operations, resources, and compliance requirements.
  • Champion student wellbeing and inclusive practices.

Person specification

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Proven educational leadership and understanding of effective teaching and learning.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on continuous school improvement.
  • Cultural competence and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative leadership skills.
  • Effective organisational and management capabilities.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement.

Qualifications and experience

  • Current New Zealand teaching practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Understanding of current educational practice and leadership.
