ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter’s International School, located in Palmela near Lisbon, serves around 1,500 students from 4 months to 18 years on a modern 37,000 m² campus. The school offers a bilingual curriculum (Portuguese/English), Cambridge programmes, and the International Baccalaureate, alongside boarding options for older students. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and General Science (including Cambridge Lower Secondary Science, as required).

  • Foster a deep understanding of environmental systems, sustainability, ecosystems, biodiversity, resource management, and human impacts on the planet.

  • Create a stimulating, inclusive classroom environment that encourages inquiry, discussion, and critical thinking about environmental challenges.

  • Connect scientific concepts to real-world environmental issues such as climate change, conservation, sustainable development, and global citizenship.

  • Integrate practical investigations, fieldwork opportunities, data analysis, and inquiry-based learning approaches.

  • Continuously assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic and personal growth.

  • Contribute to curriculum planning, ensuring content meets international standards and remains current and relevant.

  • Encourage student participation in extracurricular activities such as environmental clubs, sustainability initiatives, and science enrichment opportunities.

  • Foster a respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom culture that prioritizes student well-being.

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support learning and development.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to school initiatives, events, and mentorship.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Education, or a related field (teaching qualification preferred).

  • Experience teaching IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and/or General Science, or similar international curricula.

  • Passion for environmental education and inspiring students to think critically about sustainability and global challenges.

  • Strong skills in facilitating inquiry-based learning, discussion, and interdisciplinary thinking.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working in an international or multicultural environment (preferred).

  • Strong command of English and a clear commitment to student well-being and safeguarding.

Compensation

€35,000 - €50,000 (Pre-Tax)
