Post Title: Learning Support Teacher (Secondary)

Key Responsibilities



Foster acceptance and inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within the classroom and throughout the school environment.


Support students individually or in small groups in specific learning areas, guided by the Head of Learning Support, Deputy Heads, and subject teachers.


Lead Student Support Team meetings and work in partnership with teachers to create, implement, assess, and review Student Support Plans and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).


Engage with parents regarding the progress and concerns of SEN students.


Collaborate with subject teachers in lesson planning, differentiation, and the creation of student resources.


Assist in identifying, developing, and facilitating necessary support to address the learning needs of students.


Provide in-class support for a designated group of SEN students in mainstream classrooms.


Aid in communication between students and teachers, especially regarding the interpretation of instructions.


Offer basic physical and emotional support to students.


Take part in team meetings and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses.


Help supervise students during school activities, including on the grounds, at camps, during excursions, and in sports, therapy, and life skills sessions.


Observe students and alert the teacher to any relevant observations when necessary.


Contribute to the monitoring and assessment of programs, as well as evaluating individual student participation and success.


Maintain detailed records of student progress and observations, sharing case notes with the Learning Support team.


Cultivate positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure effective communication and collaboration.


Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Learning Support, Vice Principal, or Principal.

Requirements for the Learning Support Teacher:


A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (ideally in Education or a related field).


At least two years of experience working with students with SEN.


Knowledge of various learning styles and strategies to assist students with diverse needs.


Ability to establish rapport with students aged 11-18.


Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.


Accountable, adaptable, and dynamic, demonstrating a positive attitude and the capacity to propose proactive solutions to challenges.


Competence in using computers and other technological tools.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
