Aldar Education is on the lookout for an exceptional Head of Chemistry to join Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi, starting in the academic year 2026-2027.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Department Development

• Formulate and execute departmental policies that align with the school's vision and high achievement standards, fostering effective teaching and learning.
• Create, monitor, and assess short-, medium-, and long-term development plans for the department.
• Utilize data to pinpoint underperforming students and apply targeted support strategies.
• Examine school data, research, and inspection reports to guide teaching methods, expectations, and improvement goals.
• Ensure that schemes of work are pertinent, regularly updated, and inclusive of provisions for SEN, G&T, and EAL across all year groups.

Teaching and Learning

• Guarantee comprehensive curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression for all students, including those who excel and those with special educational needs.
• Develop clear policies for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievements.
• Uphold and communicate high expectations regarding teaching quality, student performance, and behavior.
• Oversee and assess teaching and learning to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, implementing necessary actions.
• Ensure consistent departmental involvement in the school's CAS programme and after-school revision sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP students.

Leading and Managing Staff

• Manage staff performance in accordance with the school’s performance management policy.
• Set clear expectations and foster constructive working relationships within the team, promoting collaboration, support, accountability, and high professional standards.
• Conduct regular department meetings with documented minutes and agendas, focusing on enhancing standards related to student achievement and teaching quality.

Resource Management

• Effectively deploy and manage staff, resources, and budgets.
• Optimize the use of facilities to create a stimulating teaching and learning environment that adheres to the Learning Environment Policy.
• Ensure a safe working and learning atmosphere, where risks are adequately assessed and Health and Safety policies and regulations are consistently followed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Contribute to the school's CAS Programme by leading or supporting one after-school activity each term (CAS includes I/GCSE and IB DP Revision/Booster Sessions).
• Act as an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12/13 students.
• Provide coverage for absent colleagues and invigilate examinations as needed, including at least one evening and one weekend external examination session, supporting the Examinations Officer and Summer Examination Schedule.
• Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS


• A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, along with a teaching qualification.
• A minimum of 6 years of teaching experience in a specialist subject up to GCSE and A Level is desirable but not essential.
• Prior experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
• A strong commitment to professionalism and the welfare of children.
• Respect for all members of the school community, regardless of position, gender, age, or ethnic background.
• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
