About This Role

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are on the lookout for a dedicated and experienced High School Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) who is passionate about fostering a nurturing, inspiring, and inclusive educational experience for all students. This position provides a fantastic opportunity to spearhead inclusive practices throughout the High School while making a significant difference for students with varied learning needs.

At St Andrews International School Bangkok, we understand that truly effective education begins with knowing each child. Our classrooms are designed to be warm and engaging spaces where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and develop. Our educators bring this vision to life through their creativity, commitment, and focus on personalized learning.

Inspiring Learning and Development
Recently honored as a Centre of Excellence by the Inclusion Quality Mark and recognized as the International Provision of the Year at the 2024 NASEN Awards, St Andrews is proud of its inclusive ethos that cherishes the individuality of each student. Our aim is to deliver an international education within a secure, joyful, and stimulating environment that meets all individual needs.

As the SENCO, you will oversee the High School Learning Support team and champion exceptional inclusive practices throughout the school. Collaborating closely with the Whole School Director of Learning Support, you will help create a unified approach that aligns strategic vision with effective classroom execution.

Your role will involve supporting both the academic and personal growth of students with additional needs, while also guiding your colleagues in modifying teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles. By working in partnership with teachers, Heads of Phase, and specialist staff, you will help develop inclusive learning experiences that empower every student to reach their fullest potential.

Leadership and Mentorship
The SENCO will provide professional leadership to the High School Learning Support department, nurturing a collaborative and high-achieving team culture. You will lead a committed team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), High-Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs), and teachers.

Maintaining high professional standards across the department is essential to optimize student outcomes, making prior experience in team leadership crucial. Your responsibilities will include overseeing staff schedules, managing departmental documentation, facilitating team meetings, and ensuring the effective deployment of support staff.

Additionally, the SENCO will mentor Learning Support teachers across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, fostering their professional development and identifying emerging leadership talent within the team. Through classroom observations and constructive feedback, you will promote exemplary practices in inclusive teaching and learning.

Student Support, Communication and Advocacy
At St Andrews, we recognize that strong partnerships with families and specialists are key to student success. You will lead discussions with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.

You will oversee the preparation and monitoring of Individual Learning and Health Care Plans (ILHCP) and Student Support Plans (SSP), ensuring clear objectives and effective support strategies are in place. You will also produce high-quality written reports on student progress in accordance with school policy.

Furthermore, you will provide strategic oversight of learning support interventions throughout the High School, ensuring alignment with academic pathways, including IGCSE, the IB Diploma Programme, the IB Career-related Programme, Functional Skills, and school-specific programs.

Systems, Processes and Resource Management
In collaboration with the Whole School Director of Learning Support and Lead LSAs, you will assist in managing departmental resources and budgets to guarantee effective support for students with additional needs.

You will also contribute to creating robust procedures for High School admissions and learning support provisions, ensuring that the department fosters a safe, calm, and supportive learning atmosphere.
