Scope of Responsibility
Every team member at GUIS plays a key role in providing a secure and developmentally suitable environment that reflects the GUIS program philosophy, as well as the school's policies and procedures. The teacher is integral in delivering high-quality instruction and supporting both the academic and personal growth of students. In alignment with the school’s vision and values, the teacher is tasked with fostering a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student achievement, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for learning.
Major Duties:
Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
• Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive behavior of all participants.
• Adhere to GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
In line with teaching standards relevant to NCPA, teachers are expected to:
• Design and conduct well-organized, engaging lessons.
• Modify teaching methods to meet the strengths and needs of all students.
• Evaluate, track, and document students’ progress, using data-driven strategies to facilitate teaching and learning.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment to support all students in making progress.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of the school's curriculum and instructional schemes.
• Recognize the importance of enhancing literacy and oracy levels in all lessons.
Whole-School Responsibilities:
• Engage in the development, execution, and assessment of the school's policies, practices, and procedures to align with the school's vision and values, with a focus on the Social and Emotional Wellbeing of students.
• Take part in the broader life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.
• Participate in up to six marketing events throughout the academic year, as needed.
• Provide coverage for other teachers when requested.
Specific NCPA Duties:
• Teachers are expected to complete an average of 22 contact hours weekly, which includes responsibilities such as classroom instruction, office hours, invigilation, and advisory/homeroom duties. The Head of School/Division will determine specific assignments.
Teaching load (80 min/lesson): Maximum of 5 blocks over two days.
Office Hour: four hours weekly.
Advisory: two sessions of 30 minutes each weekly.
• Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): 30 hours annually (unpaid).
• Marketing & Admissions days: up to six unpaid days to assist with marketing events as necessary.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
• An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
• Proficient in the language of instruction.
• Strong subject knowledge and curriculum expertise in relevant areas.
• Capability to plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons tailored to students’ needs.
• Effective classroom management skills, ensuring a positive, safe, and productive learning space.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, collaborating effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Dedication to ongoing professional development and a desire to enhance teaching practices.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the school and its students.
• Alignment with the school's vision, values, and dedication to international education.
