About This Role
The Constance Lake Education Authority Board is seeking applicants for the role of Secondary English Teacher at the Mamawmatawa Holistic Education Centre. This center caters to the children and families of Constance Lake First Nation, a Cree-Ojibway community situated about 30 km west of Hearst, Ontario, easily accessible via Highway 11.
The Mamawmatawa Holistic Education Centre offers educational programs for students ranging from Junior Kindergarten to grade 12, prioritizing student success with a variety of support systems in place to promote achievement. These include teacher assistants, tutor escorts, a literacy resource teacher, a numeracy teacher, special education resource teachers, a child and youth worker, social workers, a cultural coordinator, and various other support services. To support effective learning, the center is equipped with tools such as iPads, Smartboards, Chromebooks, and laptops, enabling teachers to utilize engaging and interactive teaching methods. Continuous professional development is also provided to encourage lifelong learning for all staff members. The center maintains high standards for student performance and integrates land-based and cultural learning experiences throughout its curriculum.
Position Details:
- Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Salary: Starting from $54,343.00 to $64,628.00 (Category A1-A4/Step 0), based on QECO rating and experience.
Qualifications Required:
- A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent, along with certification from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) or an appropriate provincial/territorial certification.
- Familiarity with provincial and Indigenous curriculum resources (e.g., The Ontario FNMI Curriculum, First Nations Holistic Learning Model, etc.).
- Completion of Special Education Parts 1, 2, and 3.
- Mandatory Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Ability to handle confidential materials responsibly.
- A Criminal Records Check in line with CLEA Policy is required.
- Proficiency in Cree-Ojibway or Oji-Cree is advantageous.
- Candidates must agree to a pre-employment screening, including a drug and alcohol test, per CLEA Policy.
- A strong commitment to participating in community events and school initiatives beyond classroom duties is essential.
- A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is necessary.
