JOB PURPOSE

You will play a vital role in instructing English Language at the middle school level.

As a true collaborator, you’ll partner with our academic team, administrative staff, and regional office to enhance the skills, knowledge, and training necessary to teach English Language effectively in the Secondary setting.

Secondary English Teacher Duties

This position as a Secondary English Teacher necessitates the ability, knowledge, and training to teach English Language within secondary education.

Knowledge and understanding:


Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of English Language, with experience in international curricula (such as IGCSE, A-level, or equivalent).


Able to guide and support students with subject-related inquiries and promote inquiry-based learning within their specialty.


Have knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and assessment in English Language and English Language learning.

Planning and setting expectations:


Define clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that align with the subject matter and the students being taught.


Establish appropriate and challenging expectations for student learning and motivation.


Set clear goals for students' learning, building upon prior achievements and experiences.


Identify and accommodate students with special educational needs, whether for additional foundational support or for extending learning opportunities.


Where relevant, implement and maintain records on Individual Education Plans (IEPs).


Collaborate with the English and Language learning team to define the learning objectives for topics, themes, and interdisciplinary tasks.


Additional responsibilities will include assisting in the creation of online resources, administration, and English Language learning applications, as well as interdisciplinary course development.

Teaching and managing student learning:


Ensure effective instruction for whole classes, groups, and individuals to meet teaching objectives while maintaining engagement and challenge.


Utilize teaching methods aligned with inquiry-based learning that captivate students, including stimulating intellectual curiosity, effective questioning, clear presentations, and excellent resource use.


Set high standards for student behavior, fostering discipline through inspiring teaching and positive relationships.


Encourage positive behavior patterns, enhance self-esteem, and promote independent work for students to support their education and development.

Assessment and evaluation:


Conduct assessments to evaluate the achievement of learning objectives and use these evaluations to inform future teaching and learning development.


Grade, record, and monitor student classwork and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting appropriate goals for student advancement.


Understand the expectations for students in relation to international standards and alignment when applicable.

Relations with parents and wider community:


Prepare and deliver high-quality, informative reports to parents.


Recognize that learning occurs beyond the classroom and provide opportunities to deepen student understanding through relevant, authentic examples.


Build effective relationships with school agencies and partnerships beyond the school.

Managing own performance and development:


Take responsibility for your professional growth and development, staying updated with research and advancements in pedagogy and course content.


Understand your professional responsibilities in accordance with school policies and practices.


Set a positive example for students in presentation and conduct.


Critically evaluate your teaching practices to enhance effectiveness.

Managing and developing staff and other adults:


Foster effective working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialists, and support staff to cultivate a high-quality professional learning community.

Managing resources:


Select and utilize books, equipment, IT, and other learning resources that meet teaching and learning objectives.


Assist in maintaining an updated inventory of learning resources and materials, including classroom hardware and software.

These responsibilities are factored into daily teaching loads, and adequate preparation time is safeguarded to ensure all teachers and staff can provide appropriate professional care.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS


Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Qualification.


At least 5 years of teaching experience.


Native English Speaker.


Experience in international teaching.


Experience within a bilingual language learning environment.
