About This Role

We are thrilled to announce the opening for a committed and enthusiastic Primary Teacher, with the role expected to begin in September 2026!

At the Canadian School of Florence, you will play a crucial role as a Primary Teacher in fulfilling our mission to provide a well-rounded and engaging education for our primary students. You will teach the Canadian (Ontario) Curriculum while designing, implementing, and evaluating educational opportunities that cater to your students' needs. Building collaborative relationships with your colleagues in a constructive and supportive manner is also a key component of this position.

You will directly report to the Head of Primary.

Your key connections will include students, families (both current and prospective), the Learning Support and Student Success teams, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Well-being Lead, and administrative personnel.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:

  • Champion the school’s mission and philosophy, ensuring children grow into responsible global citizens;
  • Adapt to the evolving needs of the school and actively participate in its development initiatives;
  • Put into practice established policies and initiatives;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the curriculum while delivering effective teaching and assessment;
  • Meet the requirements for assessing, evaluating, and documenting student progress;
  • Leverage student tracking and monitoring systems to enhance learning in alignment with the school’s objectives;
  • Dedicate yourself to your own professional development and growth;
  • Clearly communicate the core messages and values of the school, representing our institution at all times.

Planning and Classroom Management Duties:

  • Organize the classroom and resources to create an engaging learning environment;
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lessons that inspire students and meet their diverse needs while following ministry curriculum standards;
  • Maintain effective classroom management and encourage a positive atmosphere for learning;
  • Ensure that all students have equal access to learning opportunities and cultivate a space free from discrimination;
  • Consistently provide updates to parents/guardians and administrators regarding student progress through regular communication, such as meetings and reports;
  • Stay informed on advancements within your subject area, teaching resources, and strategies, incorporating relevant updates into your instructional planning;
  • Collaborate with colleagues, particularly the Learning Support Coordinator, DSL, and Well-being Lead, as necessary;
  • Be flexible and cooperative when planning and engaging with school teams;
  • Participate in school life beyond the classroom;
  • Get involved in co-curricular activities;
  • Assist in organizing and planning day trips as required within the Primary team;
  • Support school events such as productions and assemblies.

Your Profile:

Education & Training:

  • Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or an equivalent);
  • Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or an international teaching qualification, in good standing;
  • Qualified to teach Primary/Junior students;
  • Native English Speaker.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in teaching Primary or Junior grades;
  • A creative approach to teaching, combined with a strong work ethic and passion for education;
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and mediation skills;
  • Alignment with the school’s mission and vision, including both academic and co-curricular aspirations;
  • Enthusiastic and energetic, capable of creating unique learning experiences for students;
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment;
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting equality;
  • Dedication to maintaining confidentiality at all times;
  • Experience in independent schools, along with coaching or involvement in extracurricular activities.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
