About This Role

Job Title: PE/Swim Intern (ideal for recent graduates) commencing August 2026

Department: Physical Education

Key Responsibilities:

The PE/Swim Intern will report directly to the Head of PE and work collaboratively within a team to provide effective coaching and instruction in physical education and swimming. The specific duties of the PE/Swim Intern include:

  • being accountable to the designated Line Manager appointed by The Principal, typically the Head of Department in a related subject area corresponding to the Intern's interests;
  • working closely with other school leaders as required, such as the Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, or Year Team Leaders.

Tasks:

The PE/Swim Intern will:

  • assist with the PE curriculum, sports teams, and the swim team;
  • develop, implement, and assess a seasonal plan for a specific PE/swim team or squad;
  • perform testing and evaluations for the assigned PE/swim team or squad;
  • attend competitions for sports teams, which may occur on weekends or after school;
  • engage in all training sessions for their assigned PE/swim team or squad, which may involve lunchtime or after-school commitments;
  • take a proactive role in enhancing the learning environment and displays in designated subject areas;
  • support teachers with planning and administrative responsibilities;
  • have opportunities to co-teach and lead classes when appropriate;
  • assist school leaders with additional tasks as requested.

Professional Expectations:

The ideal candidate for the PE/Swim Intern position should demonstrate the following qualities:

  • a degree in sports science or sports studies;
  • a recognized swimming teaching or coaching qualification (preferred);
  • a recognized lifeguarding qualification (preferred);
  • a collaborative team player with a solid understanding of professional duties;
  • a creative and diverse approach to EAL (English as an Additional Language) provision;
  • up-to-date knowledge of EAL issues and strategies, with a strong desire to remain informed about advancements in the field;
  • a strong commitment to teamwork, actively engaging with staff, students, and parents;
  • meticulous attention to detail when evaluating students;
  • excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with parents, teachers, and students;
  • strong organizational skills;
  • an emphasis on Health and Safety considerations related to EAL.
