About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become a part of our Middle/High School team. The start date for this position is 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Upholding and promoting the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Delivering the prescribed curriculum with a strong grasp of subject matter and current educational practices.
- Planning and implementing engaging lessons to inspire students, while utilizing appropriate materials and creating a classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles.
- Providing written documentation of lesson planning and preparation upon request, and maintaining accurate records of curriculum, yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
- Adhering to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teaching students based on their unique needs with suitable strategies for various learning abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, those with lower academic performance, and gifted students.
- Assigning and grading student work, while assessing, recording, and reporting on students' academic progress and development, ensuring that the curriculum is tailored to individual student needs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in utilizing media and technology within the classroom.
- Supporting the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
- Engaging with external parties when necessary, such as officials from the Ministry of Education.
- Taking part in performance appraisal processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives.
- Collaborating with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral arrangements.
- Participating in and, when appropriate, leading co-curricular and extra-curricular programs, fostering positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of resources and experiences.
- Monitoring and guiding appropriate student behavior, implementing strategies to encourage self-discipline and address disruptive conduct.
- Promoting cultural awareness and understanding, while instilling a passion for learning.
- Assisting in organizing school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and award ceremonies.
- Regularly communicating with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, keeping them informed about their child's progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
- Demonstrating initiative and willingness to go above and beyond typical working hours when tasks require extra commitment.
- Attending staff meetings and participating in committees as needed.
- Carrying out additional tasks as assigned by direct and dotted reporting line managers/supervisors.
