About This Role
Delores D. Echum Composite School invites applications for a committed educator to join our team for the 2025/2026 school year. Located in the James Bay area of Northern Ontario, our First Nations institution serves over 130 students in Grades 7-12. Our Cree community boasts a population of over 3000 and can be reached via riverboat and winter road. We offer a competitive salary that reflects experience and qualifications, along with travel and relocation support, and a fully furnished housing unit with subsidized rent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid registration and good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
- At least a Bachelor of Education Degree
- Qualifications in Secondary English
REQUIREMENTS/ABILITIES:
- Include a cover letter in your application materials
- Provide copies of all credentials if not yet registered with OCT
- Submit a recent Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) report with Vulnerable Sector Check or proof of application
- Include two recent professional references and one personal character reference with permission to contact
- Hold First Aid and CPR certification or be prepared to obtain it in a reasonable time frame
- Excellent communication skills are crucial for interacting with students, parents, staff, and consultants
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional team and a dedication to the school’s educational philosophy
- Skill in adapting curriculum to suit diverse learning needs and styles
- Experience in implementing Individual Education Plans in the classroom
- Willingness to accept flexible teaching assignments
- Readiness to live in a remote community and engage actively in community life
- Understanding and respect for the traditions and aspirations of First Nations peoples, along with experience in multicultural settings
Start Date: August 21, 2025
Salary: Up to $120,140 annually, based on OSSTF/QECO rating
Duration: Permanent position, with a probationary period of 1 or 2 years depending on experience
