About This Role

We are seeking a Deputy Headteacher for our Secondary School at GEMS Winchester School.

Role Overview

This pivotal leadership role collaborates with the Executive Head of Secondary to promote academic excellence, ensure operational uniformity, and drive strategic development in a large and growing secondary institution. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Assistant Head Teacher or current Deputy Head Teacher with a proven history of enhancing school performance and the capacity to elevate leadership in a rapidly evolving environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & School Improvement

    • Lead, assess, and refine school-wide improvement initiatives in line with the Secondary School Development Plan.
    • Implement impactful leadership strategies to enhance academic results, ensure high-quality teaching, and boost student progress across various stages.
    • Play a vital role in the long-term planning for school expansion and structural adjustments.
  • Data, Assessment & Academic Standards

    • Supervise the complete assessment cycle from initial baselines to end-of-year results, ensuring detailed analysis and actionable insights.
    • Spearhead data-driven intervention strategies that enhance student outcomes, mitigate underperformance, and foster high achievement.
    • Ensure precise forecasting for IGCSE, BTEC, and A Level pathways, with regular monitoring of value-added progress.
    • Guide and train middle leaders on effective utilization of data dashboards, performance indicators, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Teaching, Learning & Curriculum

    • Collaborate with Heads of Department to guarantee that curriculum sequencing, assessment methods, and teaching strategies align with British curriculum standards.
    • Support quality assurance processes, including learning walks, work scrutiny, lesson observations, and departmental evaluations.
    • Identify and promote successful classroom practices through coaching, professional development planning, and focused learning dialogues.
  • Intervention, Inclusion & Student Progress

    • Design and oversee school-wide intervention frameworks for KS3, KS4, and KS5.
    • Manage progress meetings, student tracking analyses, and personalized improvement initiatives.
    • Work alongside pastoral leaders and SEND teams to ensure that academic and pastoral interventions are synchronized and effective.
  • Day-to-Day Operational Leadership

    • Facilitate the efficient daily operations of the secondary school, including behavior management systems, cover arrangements, supervision, student transitions, and duty organization.
    • Serve as a senior presence during transitions, at the beginning and end of the day, during student arrivals, and at significant events.
    • Lead assemblies, parent meetings, and represent the Executive Head of Secondary as needed.
  • Safeguarding, Compliance & British-Curriculum Expectations

    • Maintain statutory safeguarding responsibilities and ensure all staff adhere to policies and reporting protocols.
    • Contribute to compliance activities, including accreditation visits, quality assurance assessments, and policy revisions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Foster strong professional relationships with students, staff, parents, and governors.
    • Communicate key academic messages, improvement strategies, and student performance updates with clarity and authority.
    • Assist in marketing, admissions, and community engagement initiatives.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
