About the School
Situated in the beautiful hamlet of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Alookie School is a cornerstone of the community. The school accommodates around 200 students in a K-5 setting, supported by a staff of 25. Both the school and the surrounding community are rich in Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)
- Language Component: Inuktitut

Desired Qualifications
Candidates need not fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written).
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
- Background teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-backed literacy development
- Experience with current assessment methods to direct learning
- Proven ability to cultivate a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience fostering respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Proven ability to enhance student wellbeing and engagement
- Capability to engage with students outside the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to work as part of a school team in a cooperative manner
- Experience contributing to and learning in a community-focused environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Pangnirtung, Nunavut: $19,077
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently working for the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a recognized Canadian jurisdiction. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
