Coordinator Primary School - German International Stream

The German Swiss International School (GSIS) in Hong Kong stands as one of the premier international schools in the city, delivering exceptional, holistic education to a vibrant community of around 1,300 students, supported by a dedicated team of 240 faculty and staff members. We are currently accepting applications for the following role, set to commence in August 2026.

The Coordinator Primary School collaborates with the Team Lead Primary in the operational management of the primary school. This position emphasizes the administrative organization of daily school life and the assurance of pedagogical quality in teaching. The role reports directly to the Team Lead Primary.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Coordination & pedagogical development

• Implementation of the "Bildungshaus" concept: Providing operational support for the transition from kindergarten and preschool to integrate the guiding principle of ‘from learning through play to playful learning’ into daily teaching for grades 1 and 2.

• Curriculum & standards: Ensuring the effective implementation of the primary school curriculum across all grades.

• Support: Assisting teachers in maintaining consistent academic standards and promoting inclusion.

• Developing and enforcing a comprehensive anti-bullying policy that includes preventative measures to foster a positive school environment.

• Collaborating with the Team Lead to ensure compliance with robust child protection and safeguarding protocols within the department.

• Pre-school work: Overseeing the operational management and organization of pre-school groups. Administrative support & organization

• Facilitating a smooth start to each academic year.

• Timetabling: Creating schedules and managing daily arrangements for substitute teachers when necessary (resource planning). Implementing UNTIS in substitute planning.

• Material management: Assessing the need for teaching resources and equipment for effective budget planning.

• Documentation: Ensuring timely preparation and quality of report cards and development reports.

• School enrolment: Coordinating enrolment assessments in collaboration with the Team Lead Primary and organizing taster days.

• Assisting in the planning of school-wide CPD Days.

Student interaction

• Monitoring student attendance.

• Being accessible and approachable for students.

• Coordinating with School Counsellors, teachers, and parents to support student well-being.

• Maintaining discipline standards within the department.

Team & parental involvement

• Onboarding: Assisting new teachers with school procedures and administrative processes.

• Team development: Providing professional guidance to educators/early childhood educators in their daily tasks and organizing internal training sessions.

• Parent communication: Serving as the primary contact for parents regarding organizational inquiries and assisting in the organization of class parent-teacher conferences. Collaborating with the Team Lead to address issues that require de-escalation and mediation.

• Transition: Participating in joint meetings with the kindergarten team to enhance cooperation.

• Actively supporting the KPR system.

• Cooperation: Promoting collaboration with kindergarten teachers through joint projects.

• Ensuring effective communication within the department.

Teaching obligations 

• Teaching 16 lessons per week, aligning with a lesson allowance of 12 lessons/week.

Qualifications


• Completed teacher training (2nd state examination for primary school) OR

• Master’s degree in educational sciences with a focus on early education OR

• Comparable qualification with relevant experience in both educational areas.

Experience

• A minimum of 8-10 years of teaching experience, with demonstrable involvement in school improvement initiatives within an international context.

• Comprehensive knowledge of German educational standards.

• Experience in data management related to monitoring and tracking student progress.

• Current understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.

Competencies

• Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of professionals (educators & teachers) and appreciate different working cultures.

• Organizational skills: Proficient in managing administrative tasks and digital management tools.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders (students, staff, parents, leadership) in a multicultural environment.

• Excellent proficiency in German, with a willingness to achieve fluency in English.
