About This Role

The Physical Education Teacher will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of the Physical Education and Swimming curriculum, enhancing its effectiveness across the school.

In addition, this position includes the responsibilities of the Coordinator for Co-Curricular Activities (CCA), overseeing the planning, leadership, and management of the CCA Program, which features Activity Camps.

Specialist educators are responsible for maximizing the academic development of their students while collaborating with colleagues to advance physical education and co-curricular efforts within the institution.

All teaching staff are expected to create a positive, engaging, and professional atmosphere that encourages teamwork and challenges, while acknowledging individual contributions to the overall success of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote excellence across all areas of school life, prioritizing student success.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
  • Cultivate a school environment that is positive, purposeful, and professional.
  • Support and motivate students, fellow educators, and other staff members.
  • Encourage continuous consultation, evaluation, and improvement.

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver well-structured, clearly defined lessons tailored to the diverse abilities of all students in alignment with the syllabus.
  • Ensure the classroom is an engaging setting that fosters learning.
  • Spark enthusiasm for the subject and inspire all students to achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with Learning Support for students with special educational needs and with homeroom teachers for those facing pastoral challenges.
  • Promote exemplary behavior by fostering a positive learning environment and building strong relationships with students.
  • Assign homework that complies with policy and is suitable for students’ abilities and overall workload.
  • Maintain a high standard of organization.
  • Arrive on time for lessons.
  • Uphold high standards in the use of English as the primary language and assist in developing English as a Second Language.
  • Provide quality, accurate, and constructive feedback to parents during Parent Meetings, in subject reports, and through various communications.
  • Assess, document, and monitor the progress of all students in accordance with faculty guidelines to ensure accurate reporting to parents when necessary.
  • Maintain teaching materials and resources as needed.

Responsibilities to the School

  • Show respect for colleagues' needs and work collaboratively within the department regarding cooperation, deadlines, and team cohesion.
  • Participate positively in departmental meetings and adhere to policies, contributing to effective departmental management.
  • Encourage professional discussions, share teaching strategies, and support fellow educators in developing effective practices and new initiatives.
  • Engage in and contribute to INSET activities offered by the department and the school.
  • Actively participate in cross-curricular connections and initiatives within the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) framework.
  • Embrace new responsibilities within the department as part of ongoing professional development.
  • Stay updated on developments in Physical Education and the broader educational context.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a relevant teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS).
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • A strong passion for teaching and a commitment to supporting the holistic development of students.
  • A high level of professionalism and genuine concern for children's well-being.
  • Recent and active involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • Respect for all members of the school community, regardless of position, gender, age, or ethnicity.
