Who we are:
Established in 1950, Bellver College is a co-educational, non-denominational day school and is recognized as the oldest privately owned British school in Spain. We currently serve a diverse student body of around 200 learners, aged 3 to 18, from both local and international backgrounds in Mallorca. Our one-form-entry model ensures that class sizes are generally limited to 20 students.
Situated just 3 km from the center of Palma de Mallorca and directly across from the King of Spain's summer residence, Bellver enjoys a prime location near the beach. Mallorca is one of the Mediterranean's most vibrant islands, boasting a rich culture and active economy year-round, thanks to its pleasant climate.
Role Overview:
Bellver College seeks a compassionate, dedicated, and student-centered Learning Support / Life-Centred Education Teacher to oversee a specialized classroom designed to support neurodivergent students, including those with cognitive and developmental disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum.
This role embodies Bellver College's commitment to inclusive education and the comprehensive development of every child. The teacher will design and implement individualized learning experiences that promote academic, social, emotional, and functional advancement, while also encouraging independence, self-confidence, and a sense of community within the larger school setting.
The ideal applicant will work closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to ensure that students experience meaningful educational opportunities that reflect Bellver College's curriculum and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Design & Instruction
•
Develop and provide customized individual and small-group instruction tailored to the distinct learning profiles and needs of students.
•
Adapt curriculum materials to improve accessibility while maintaining high standards and meaningful learning outcomes.
•
Create and implement Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) with measurable academic, social-emotional, and functional goals.
•
Utilize evidence-based teaching methods, visual supports, and structured instructional techniques to enhance learning.
•
Integrate assistive technologies, alternative communication methods (e.g., AAC, visual schedules), and sensory supports as needed.
Student Development & Wellbeing
•
Support students in cultivating self-regulation, independence, communication, and social skills.
•
Address sensory, behavioral, and emotional needs through proactive, strengths-focused approaches.
•
Promote student agency and confidence through scaffolded learning and targeted skill development.
•
Recognize and celebrate student achievements and growth in ways that resonate with students and their families.
Learning Environment
•
Create a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom that encourages calmness, engagement, and a sense of belonging.
•
Employ effective and respectful classroom management strategies that accommodate diverse learners.
•
Maintain high standards of care, safety, and emotional wellbeing.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
•
Collaborate with classroom teachers, inclusion staff, and leadership to foster inclusive practices throughout the school.
•
Work with external professionals (e.g., therapists, psychologists) as required.
•
Actively participate in team meetings, professional development, and reflective practices.
•
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Bellver College’s inclusive systems and practices.
Communication & Family Partnership
•
Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, strategies, and support plans.
•
Build strong, respectful partnerships with parents and caregivers in the educational process.
•
Assist in ensuring smooth transitions between school, home, and external services.
Supervision & School Life
•
Oversee students during transitions, breaks, and other non-classroom activities as needed.
•
Engage in school events, meetings, and community activities.
•
Keep accurate records in line with school policies and safeguarding requirements.
