OBJECTIVES

  • Cultivate Student-Centered Learning: Design stimulating, inquiry-driven lessons that spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
  • Champion Inclusive Practices: Work alongside Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and EAL specialists to create a nurturing and differentiated environment where every student can thrive.
  • Enhance Collaborative Planning: Collaborate with grade-level teams to ensure interdisciplinary units align with school-wide curricular goals and essential competencies for the 21st century.
  • Promote Holistic Development: Facilitate students’ academic, social, and emotional growth by reflecting on teaching practices and nurturing positive relationships.
  • Uphold High Expectations: Model and reinforce the standards, values, and behaviors expected of students while committing to supporting each child in reaching their full potential.
  • Adhere to Professional Standards: Remain updated on professional responsibilities, statutory regulations, and school policies, sharing collective accountability for their implementation.
  • Foster Effective Communication: Build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and caregivers to support development, well-being, and achievement.
  • Commit to Continuous Improvement: Participate in reflective practices, professional development, and collaborative innovation to enhance teaching approaches.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver inquiry-based lessons that connect to real-life contexts, promoting the exploration of important concepts through hands-on learning experiences.
  • Integrate technology meaningfully to bolster collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop differentiated learning opportunities by working with LSAs and EAL specialists to accommodate various needs, including language learners and students with individualized plans.
  • Employ formative and summative assessments to track student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and their families.
  • Organize well-structured lessons that reflect strong subject knowledge, with clear objectives and opportunities for developing literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
  • Assign purposeful homework to reinforce learning and support student progression.

Collaborative Planning

  • Actively participate in grade-level teams to create interdisciplinary units that are in line with the school’s inquiry framework.
  • Share materials, strategies, and examples of student work to enhance curriculum implementation and assessment practices.
  • Collaborate with LSAs and EAL specialists to ensure effective in-class support during lessons and small-group sessions.

Classroom Community & Safeguarding

  • Create a welcoming and respectful classroom atmosphere where students feel secure to take risks and value diverse perspectives.
  • Work with LSAs to implement inclusive practices (e.g., visual supports, multisensory tasks, adaptive technologies).
  • Follow safeguarding protocols by proactively addressing well-being concerns and maintaining open communication with families.
  • Establish clear behavior management systems that promote self-discipline and independence.

Professional Growth

  • Engage in peer observations, feedback sessions, and coaching/mentoring to refine teaching strategies.
  • Attend workshops focused on inquiry-based teaching, EAL techniques, and inclusive education to stay abreast of best practices.
  • Participate in performance management and seek out identified professional development opportunities.

Additional Duties

  • Ensure the health and safety of students during school-related activities, both on and off the premises.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Junior School.
  • All team members are expected to lead one enriching After-School activity.
